; Aims

After discussion at ] in April 2008.

'''Specific aims''' for the project are:-

*To complete tagging and assessment of all Yorkshire related articles (See below)
*To recruit more active editors (See Member News)
*To bring our top level article ] up to ] status
*To bring all other top priority articles (currently 15 with 2 at FA) to at least ] status
*To set up a weekly or monthly selected article improvement drive (See this month's feature below)
*To produce a regular news letter for circulation to members

and apropos of the above a '''2010 New Year''' article improvement drive/collaboration is being organised.

;'''Priority Articles'''

The '''top priority articles''' that have been identified to date are as follows -

* ] • ] • ] • ] • ] • ] • ] • ] • ] • ] • ] • ] • ] • ] • ] • ] • ]

The number has been kept deliberately low to give us a fighting chance of improving them to at least GA status, also so we can concentrate our efforts on these first.

;'''General Election'''
This month will see the ] take place with a raft of boundary changes for the constituencies, thanks to the ]. A lot of work has been done on updating the constituency articles to cover the changes and new articles created for the new constituencies. Once results are in there will be changes to make to all of the candidate articles to show their new status as MP or not as the case may be. There will also be changes to make to the settlement articles to show the new MP and may be change the constituency if the boundary changes affect it.

Derek R Bullamore is taking a short wikibreak and will be back on Misplaced Pages soon.
Welcome to my talk page. Please adhere to the talk page guidelines and particularly the following:
  • I will generally respond here to comments that are posted here, rather than replying via your Talk page (or the article Talk page, if you are writing to me here about an article), so you may want to watch this page until you are responded to, or specifically let me know where you'd prefer the reply.
⇒ Start a new Talk topic.
Beware! This user's talk page is patrolled by talk page stalkers.

Welcome!

WELCOME!! Hello, Derek R Bullamore! I want to personally welcome you on behalf of the Misplaced Pages community. I hope you like the place and decide to stay. If you haven't already, you can put yourself in the new user log and the list of users so you can be properly introduced to everyone. Don't forget to be bold, and don't be afraid of hungry Wikipedians...there's a rule about not biting newcomers. Some other good links are the tutorial, how to edit a page, or if you're really stuck, see the help pages. Misplaced Pages is held up by Five Pillars...I recommend reading about them if you haven't already. Finally, it would be really helpful if you would sign your name on talk pages, so people can get back to you quickly. It's easy to do this by clicking the button (next to the one with the "W" crossed out) one from the end on the left. If that's confusing, or if you have any questions, feel free to drop me a at my talk page (by clicking the plus sign (+) next to the tab at the top that says "edit this page")...and again, welcome!--ViolinGirl 00:20, 18 December 2005 (UTC)

No original research (!)

Following the fascinating (and news-breaking) Tom Springfield saga, we now have the possibly equally involving Inez and Charlie Fox(x) saga. Inez's death at (allegedly) 79 or (in fact) 84 has not (yet) been widely reported. If you're interested in any way, I'd be interested to know what's said about their birth years and names in the "reliable" sources that you can find... Ghmyrtle (talk) 08:48, 31 August 2022 (UTC)

Yes I watched the 'Springfield saga' from afar, but you were clearly much closer to that action than I. Funnily enough, I spent an hour or two yesterday looking at conflicting dates for David Whitfield's year of birth (1925 is correct), duly muddied by a statue of him erected outside the Hull New Theatre a decade or so ago, which cites 1926. For my money, both the statue and the accompanying text are rather naff and unprofessional.
Anyhoo, The Virgin Encyclopedia of Popular Music - Concise Edition - Colin Larkin - ISBN 1-85227-745-9; 1997, page 486, cites Inez Foxx born 9 September 1942, Greensboro, North Carolina and Charlie Foxx born 23 October 1939, Greensboro, North Carolina. The Book of Golden Discs - 2nd Edition - ISBN 0-214-20512-6; 1978, page 159, also states 9 September 1942 for Inez Foxx, but rather curiously lists her as the 'artist', with Charlie (no birth detail) as 'co-writer and her manager'. You will be aware that AllMusic has 1939 and 1998 for Charlie and 1942 for Inez. The curse of the showbiz age factor, I presume. Otherwise their 'one hit wonder' status, not quite, but you know what I mean, precludes their presence in any of the other copious tomes I possess. To be truthful, my current health status rather restricts my searching more thoroughly, although I did peruse, British Hit Singles & Albums - 19th Edition - ISBN 1-904994-10-5, were no birth information is listed.
The, not uncharted, dilemma of 'reliable sources' being anything but !
Derek R Bullamore (talk) 12:43, 31 August 2022 (UTC)
I've now confirmed Charlie as 1933, per this. Ghmyrtle (talk) 12:50, 31 August 2022 (UTC)

Bern Elliott

Anthony Elliott | Facebook Hi Ian sorry to tell you but Dad pasted away on Tuesday morning, his Funeral will be on Tuesday the 27th in Margate at 11.30. Hope your keeping well. Ecosseboy (talk) 01:14, 17 September 2022 (UTC)

As I have already stated to you, I do not really doubt that Bern Elliott has died. BUT, and this is also the point that I made earlier, Misplaced Pages needs a reliable source to support such an edit. As is explained at WP:UGC - "Examples of unacceptable user-generated sites are Ancestry.com, Facebook, Fandom, Find a Grave, Goodreads, IMDb, Instagram, ODMP, Reddit, TikTok, Tumblr, TV Tropes, Twitter, and Misplaced Pages (self referencing)". Social media carries all sorts of nonsense on a daily basis, and is as reliable a vehicle as a car with three square wheels and no engine. I would suggest you take some time out to familiarise yourself with Misplaced Pages's major editing guidelines (WP:Five pillars is as good a place to start as anywhere). It would undoubtedly help you in making decisions about any future edits that you intend to make. Thank you, - Derek R Bullamore (talk) 12:26, 17 September 2022 (UTC)
There is a reference to Bern Elliott's death here - "Bern Elliott past away on 13-09-2022 in Margate". There seems no reason to doubt that it's true, but it's surprising that it hasn't been reported somewhere or other. Unfortunately, we used to be able to rely on local newspapers for matters like this, but sadly no more. Ghmyrtle (talk) 20:56, 18 November 2022 (UTC)
Unfortunately, SMART is not a reliable source, either. Dgndenver (talk) 05:37, 20 November 2022 (UTC)
Yes, we know - see Talk:Bern Elliott and the Fenmen. - Derek R Bullamore (talk) 13:16, 20 November 2022 (UTC)

Request reason:

I think I have suffered "collateral damage" from a more general block aimed elsewhere. You are welcome to consider my editing history, longevity of tenure here, lack of any previous block etc. Thank you Derek R Bullamore (talk) 14:06, 13 November 2022 (UTC)

Decline reason:

I'm almost certain you are correct, but unfortunately you haven't provided enough information to find your block (your account isn't blocked directly). Please exactly follow the instructions which appear when you attempt to edit. Yamla (talk) 14:52, 13 November 2022 (UTC)

Shahrud

In April 2021, you marked the article Shahrud for reference improvement. I just finished what I have time for; the article was completely lifted from one of the sources, which I found in archive. I replaced the article with a translation of the German article, which has decent sources. I think I may need to look them up and see if all are adequate; however the author/editor on the German Misplaced Pages who looks after these musical instrument articles has done a good job on the others that I perused. I lifted the refimprove tag. Thanks, Jacqke (talk) 14:51, 27 November 2022 (UTC)

Sadly...

... it seems that more and more B-list (but N) UK pop stars from the 50s and 60s are passing away off-radar, as it were. First we had Tom Springfield - not reported for several weeks, and only then because his solicitor sent me his death certificate - and now we have Bern Elliott (died 13 September), and Jimmy Justice (died 15 November). Nothing on either death in WP:RS, but certainly true. If you're interested, this site has some useful leads worth checking through (as well as this old fave). Ghmyrtle (talk) 08:12, 28 November 2022 (UTC)

Thanks for the links. I see others are keeping the Dead Rock Stars site going... after a fashion at least. You have touched on this previously, but the local press do not seem to report real news any more. There are more interested in some Z-list 'celebrity' who has got a spell in their finger, or a granny who has lost their budgie. Sad really, but a sign of the times. Harry Styles, The Belle Stars or Petula Clark, since you're asking. Hope you are well - one of us needs to be ! Regards - Derek R Bullamore (talk) 13:25, 28 November 2022 (UTC)
Petula Clark's lost her budgie??? Ghmyrtle (talk) 13:49, 28 November 2022 (UTC)
Yeah, I read it in the Daily Mirror... so it must be true ! - Derek R Bullamore (talk) 14:29, 28 November 2022 (UTC)
I notice, and you probably have done the same, that some kind editor has found a source for Bern Elliott's demise. How reliable it is is another matter. Any luck with Jimmy Justice ? - Derek R Bullamore (talk) 13:27, 16 December 2022 (UTC)

Review and Draft Help

Dear Derek,

I know you're more a popular music specialist, but it's somehow related!

Would you by any chance be able to help editing this page, which is currently under review as a draft:

https://en.wikipedia.org/Draft:George_Jackson_(conductor) Jacksogh1987 (talk) 10:36, 14 February 2023 (UTC)

Hello George,
Classical music is really not my forte, but on a quick cursory inspection, the draft article looks to be in fair shape. I would have thought it should be passed as a viable article as it presently stands, although I have no experience of assessment in that area (WP:AfC). My immediate thought was the WP:COI angle. As the editing guidelines in this regard specify - "you are strongly discouraged from editing affected articles directly". Anyhow, I hope this helps. - Derek R Bullamore (talk) 11:11, 14 February 2023 (UTC)
Thanks Derek - that is really useful info! Jacksogh1987 (talk) 11:11, 14 February 2023 (UTC)

A belated happy new year

...from an old editor, most lately of the non-logging variety. Saw your reference-filling activity at an article of mutual interest, and was glad to see you at work, there and in general. I hope you and yours are well. Please accept my best wishes for a peaceful and productive 2023. With regard, an educator and former prof. 2601:246:C700:F5:74C5:D89F:B48:2116 (talk) 05:25, 13 March 2023 (UTC)

Many thanks for the greeting and wishes, and the same to you (whoever you are). Peace and love. - Derek R Bullamore (talk) 21:55, 13 March 2023 (UTC)
Just a colleague, past and intermittent, for whom in past (even if less than fully memorably), you routinely "pitched the save" with regard to citations needing completing and copy editing and the like. No worry, I am fine being out of site and mind. Just wanted my continuing appreciation to be clear. 2601:246:C700:F5:A9DE:5AC2:9872:31B9 (talk) 02:05, 16 March 2023 (UTC)

Re. this edit
Please take care not to tag articles for "may not meet Notability" when they do in fact satisfy a WP:SNG. In this case, WP:MUSICBIO point #6 - ".. is a musician who has been a reasonably prominent member of two or more independently notable ensembles ..." - namely, Hawkwind and Steve Took's Horns. Not only was/is this made clear in the opening paragraph but there was/is a note on the talk page highlighting this. Thank you. Romomusicfan (talk) 08:46, 22 April 2023 (UTC)

Lux Familiar Cup 2023

I trust you'll be participating? Narky Blert (talk) 18:39, 14 May 2023 (UTC)

Errr, no. My interest in the band is passing - I doubt I would recognise more than half a dozen of all their ditties. Admire their spirit though - although they are perhaps of an age where they ought to be drinking it, in moderation. Regards, - Derek R Bullamore (talk) 19:03, 14 May 2023 (UTC)

Glyn Johns article

I've been working on an expansion for the Glyn Johns article, and I just added a big chunk of things. However, it definitely needs some tweaking. There are some places that need citations. If you have some spare moments, you could take a look and see if there is anything that needs fixing. I also posted a talk thread there if anyone wishes to provide feedback. Best wishes to you always! Garagepunk66 (talk) 01:12, 8 June 2023 (UTC)

I will give it the once-over, but due to other commitments, that exercise will not occur within the next few days. Regards. - Derek R Bullamore (talk) 10:42, 10 June 2023 (UTC)
As promised, I have give the article the once-over and, for what it is worth, the twice-over. Good work from you, and others will no doubt polish the thing further than I have. The way of Misplaced Pages, of course. Regards. - Derek R Bullamore (talk) 23:06, 17 June 2023 (UTC)

Invitation

Hello Derek R Bullamore!

  • The New Pages Patrol is currently struggling to keep up with the influx of new articles needing review. We could use a few extra hands to help.
  • We think that someone with your activity and experience is very likely to meet the guidelines for granting.
  • Reviewing/patrolling a page doesn't take much time, but it requires a strong understanding of Misplaced Pages’s CSD policy and notability guidelines.
  • Kindly read the tutorial before making your decision, and feel free to post on the project talk page with questions.
  • If patrolling new pages is something you'd be willing to help out with, please consider applying here.

Thank you for your consideration. We hope to see you around!

SNBC13

Hiya Derek, I noticed while transcribing death notices from Deaths in 2023 to 2023 in music that the source for R.L. Boyce's death is a site called "SNBC13". I've seen this site used as a source a couple times and it does not strike me as reliable. It seems like it's a local television news station, but it doesn't seem to actually be one. It's also mentioned in this NPR article about hoax websites. I've removed Boyce from Deaths in 2023 and that source from Boyce's article until a more reliable one can be found, and I'm thinking about bringing the site over to the reliable sources noticeboard. I wanted to give you a heads up, just in case you come across that site again. Happy editing! Doc StrangeLogbook 17:52, 11 November 2023 (UTC)

OK, thank you. I was not able to access the whole site (probably due to the US block on European requests, I think). I do not recall running into that site before, but after almost 18 years here, I can not be certain. There are other online sources relating to Boyce's demise, but I can not be bothered right now to check them for reliability (for much the same reasons). - Derek R Bullamore (talk) 18:23, 11 November 2023 (UTC)
No worries, I figured that was the case. It looks like there's another source in there now that's still tagged to add a better source. I hope a perennial reliable source for music eventually writes something. Doc StrangeLogbook 02:14, 14 November 2023 (UTC)

Hello Derek R Bullamore, I'm updating the Herbie Lovelle filmography page. Thank you. 190.237.46.243 (talk) 17:29, 22 November 2023 (UTC)

Good. I hope you can find some references, as per WP:V. - Derek R Bullamore (talk) 18:34, 22 November 2023 (UTC)

I already found it in the contribution of Herbie Lovelle

My name is Jorge Luis, I am in Arequipa. Can you help me put up Herbie Lovellle's page? 190.236.76.22 (talk) 20:43, 23 November 2023 (UTC)

Hello Jorge Luis. I have spent some time improving Lovelle's Misplaced Pages article but, for now, do not intend to spend any more hours on it. There must be material within the 'Paula Lockheart "The Formative Years of Herb Lovell" (1997)' article which could be used as a reference. Please bear in mind that IMDb and Discogs are not deemed to be reliable sources, but may remain as 'External links'. Happy editing. - Derek R Bullamore (talk) 22:17, 23 November 2023 (UTC)

ArbCom 2023 Elections voter message

Hello! Voting in the 2023 Arbitration Committee elections is now open until 23:59 (UTC) on Monday, 11 December 2023. All eligible users are allowed to vote. Users with alternate accounts may only vote once.

The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.

If you wish to participate in the 2023 election, please review the candidates and submit your choices on the voting page. If you no longer wish to receive these messages, you may add {{NoACEMM}} to your user talk page. MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 00:24, 28 November 2023 (UTC)

Don Ienner: Later career and Columbia Records

Hi. I noticed that you are an active member of Misplaced Pages:WikiProject Rock music/Members. Therefore, I thought you might be interested in taking a look at an edit request I recently posted at Talk:Don_Ienner#Later_career. Although Don Ienner is not a rock musician himself, as the head of Columbia Records and Sony Music, he helped launch the careers of many popular contemporary musicians, so I am hoping this might interest you. I wonder if, while you are already on the talk page, you would also look at a previous edit request I posted at Talk:Don Ienner#Columbia Records & Sony Music section, which was only partially implemented. I was in a discussion with another editor about the bullet points he did not implement, but he has not responded to me. I would really appreciate it if you can look and see what you think over there as well. Thanks, GarrettEye (talk) 16:26, 29 January 2024 (UTC)

With due respect, I am going to have to decline. I am convalescing at home following surgery in mid-December, and presently only managing a handful of modest Misplaced Pages edits per day. I do not presently have the concentration necessary to undertake detailed work on a subject matter that I barely know. You will need to look elsewhere. Regards. - Derek R Bullamore (talk) 15:12, 30 January 2024 (UTC)

Proposed deletion of Conor Russomanno

Notice

The article Conor Russomanno has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Fails WP:GNG, WP:NPROF; created by SPA, looks promotional

While all constructive contributions to Misplaced Pages are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. 18 years ago...

...you added the middle name "Sinclair" to Marc Almond's biography and corrected "Marc" to "Mark" as the birth name. I don't see any support for Sinclair in sources older than 2006, so I removed it today. I looked at older sources such as The New Rolling Stone Encyclopedia of Rock & Roll published in 1995 which says he was born as Peter Marc Almond, and Dave Thompson's 2000 book Alternative Rock. The 2018 UK OBE honours announcement spells his name Peter Mark Almond. UK government filings show that his father's name also lacks "Sinclair".

In your defence, the 2006 edition of The Encyclopedia of Popular Music lists his birth name as Peter Mark Sinclair Almond on page 139. Previous editions of that book did not have a biography dedicated to him aside from naming him in the Soft Cell section. Binksternet (talk) 16:18, 21 February 2024 (UTC)

Well done for your research work. Funnily enough, I have in front of me a mighty and weighty tome, which I recently examined for another musician(s) altogether. It states Peter Marc Almond. So confusion abounds, and needless to say, my memory does not stretch to 18 years ago ! 18 minutes is about my limit these days. Regards, - Derek R Bullamore (talk) 17:44, 21 February 2024 (UTC)

Attention called to Geordie music articles (below standard)

In looking for some information on the piece, "Drucken Bella Roy, O!", presented as outro for S1E2 of the BBC series Sherwood, I visited the following articles: The Newcastle Eccentrics of the 19th century, Allan's Illustrated Edition of Tyneside Songs and Readings, and Robert Nunn (songwriter), perhaps a few more.

All of them appear to be rampant WP:OR, essentially essays of WP editors based on the primary sources themselves. So, instead of calling on secondary sources, and the authoritative content that others have written about these topics, we are writing the secondary content ourselves (in violation of WP policies and guidelines).

I pasted in one good source, by a scholar named Harker, which is where my little additional understanding of Bella Roy derives. That is the only secondary source appearing in those three articles, and it now appears in a Further reading-type section, at different points in those articles.

I call out to you as this is much more your area than mine—I retired from STEM editing here about a half decade ago, where our paths crossed regularly as you filled in citations behind me, pretty regularly.

These musicology revisions will involve some research, and steady work—the articles duplicate the same primary reference, then derive all content from it and their personal knowledge. Besides the Harker journal article, I know he also wrote an introduction to a re-issue of one of the songbooks. That introduction is likely to be a good source for the article, properly extracted and cited. (It is mentioned in the lead of the Allan's Illustrated... article.)

All this for the good of the encyclopedia, and FYI, in case this Yorkshire/Tyneside genre is of interest to you. 73.73.49.62 (talk) 19:02, 25 March 2024 (UTC)

Thank you for the information. Actually, these subject matters are a long way from my areas of interest, and my only involvement in them was in improving the article's references. In addition the area in question is over 100 miles away from me. So thanks, but no thanks; you may need to spread the net further. - Derek R Bullamore (talk) 15:47, 31 March 2024 (UTC)

Leeds Misplaced Pages meetup on Saturday 4th May

Hello there! Interested in having a chat with fellow Wikipedians? There's a meetup in Leeds on Saturday 4th May 2024, at the Tiled Hall Café at Leeds Central Library.

Full details here.

You're receiving this one-off message as you're either a member of WikiProject Yorkshire, you've expressed an interest in a previous Leeds meetup years ago, or (for about 4 of you), we've met :)

I plan to organise more in future, so if you'd like to be notified next time, please say so over on the meetup page.

Please also invite any Wikimedia people you know (or have had wiki dealings with) – spread the word! Hope to see you there.

Gilly Gilly Ossenfeffer...

Hi Derek,

I recently (Jun 3rd) made a very minor change to your page on Gilly Gilly Ossenfeffer Katzenellen Bogen by the Sea, when I noticed you stated that Willie Rushton sang it in Series 9, Episode 1 of ISIHAC, in the game One Song to the Tune of Another. It was actually in the game Sing Along, in that episode. You almost immediately reverted my edit, but I don't know why. Maybe I transgressed some editing etiquette that I was unaware of, in which case I apologise.

The following link provides some evidence to support my assertion (six minutes and fifteen seconds in): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eQhH6-khBmY

Kind regards

Mark

I have not been feeling very well these last few days, so please be patient with me. Can I suggest as a new editor here, you read WP:5 Pillars and WP:V in the interim. Just press on the highlighted blue bits and they will "transport you". I will provide a fuller explanation of my previous action in due course. Thanks. - Derek R Bullamore (talk) 22:08, 6 June 2024 (UTC)
Derek R Bullamore is taking a short wikibreak and will be back on Misplaced Pages soon.

  • A very big Thank you to all the editors who labour away quietly and help make this WikiProject what it is; no edit goes unnoticed.
  • To the football and rugby editors who have done sterling work in keeping abreast of the top clubs.
  • To all the WikiProject Yorkshire editors who have been busy on vandal patrol at watchlist.

thumbs up Great!

Aims

After discussion at Misplaced Pages talk:WikiProject Yorkshire in April 2008.

Specific aims for the project are:-

  • To complete tagging and assessment of all Yorkshire related articles (See below)
  • To recruit more active editors (See Member News)
  • To bring our top level article Yorkshire up to Featured article status
  • To bring all other top priority articles (currently 15 with 2 at FA) to at least Good article status
  • To set up a weekly or monthly selected article improvement drive (See this month's feature below)
  • To produce a regular news letter for circulation to members

and apropos of the above a 2010 New Year article improvement drive/collaboration is being organised.

Priority Articles

The top priority articles that have been identified to date are as follows -

The number has been kept deliberately low to give us a fighting chance of improving them to at least GA status, also so we can concentrate our efforts on these first.

General Election

This month will see the General Election take place with a raft of boundary changes for the constituencies, thanks to the boundary commission review.

WikiProject Yorkshire Collaboration of the Month Project

The July 2024 articles selected below are an editor choice as there were no nominations on the project talk page.

175 1 Jul 2024 ~ 31 Jul 2024 Henry Moore Ingleton Waterfalls Trail

Please nominate future articles for improvement at Misplaced Pages talk:WikiProject Yorkshire.

Please bear in mind...

The project is subscribed to a clean-up listing which lists articles tagged with various clean-up tags that need attention. The listing is refreshed by a bot on a regular basis.

  • Monitoring is essential
Use the watchlist to keep an eye on changes to the project's articles so that vandalism and spamming can be removed as quickly as possible.
  • Moves
Please be careful when performing articles moves and ensure that you also move all the talk sub-pages and update any image fair use rational. Otherwise the archives, to-do lists, assessment comments and GA reviews get lost and the image may be deleted as it has an incorrect FUR. You will also have to check that the Commons link is set correctly.
