Project Israel To Do:

Here are some tasks awaiting attention:
Warning: active arbitration remedies

The contentious topics procedure applies to this article. This article is related to the Arab–Israeli conflict, which is a contentious topic. Furthermore, the following rules apply when editing this article:

  • You must be logged-in and extended-confirmed to edit or discuss this topic on any page (except for making edit requests, provided they are not disruptive)
  • You may not make more than 1 revert within 24 hours on any edits related to this topic

Editors who repeatedly or seriously fail to adhere to the purpose of Misplaced Pages, any expected standards of behaviour, or any normal editorial process may be blocked or restricted by an administrator. Editors are advised to familiarise themselves with the contentious topics procedures before editing this page.

Further information
The exceptions to the extended confirmed restriction are:
  1. Non-extended-confirmed editors may use the "Talk:" namespace only to make edit requests related to articles within the topic area, provided they are not disruptive.
  2. Non-extended-confirmed editors may not create new articles, but administrators may exercise discretion when deciding how to enforce this remedy on article creations. Deletion of new articles created by non-extended-confirmed editors is permitted but not required.

With respect to the WP:1RR restriction:

  • Clear vandalism of whatever origin may be reverted without restriction. Also, reverts made solely to enforce the extended confirmed restriction are not considered edit warring.
  • Editors who violate this restriction may be blocked by any uninvolved administrator, even on a first offence.

After being warned, contentious topics procedure can be used against any editor who repeatedly or seriously fails to adhere to the purpose of Misplaced Pages, any expected standards of behaviour, or any normal editorial process. Contentious topic sanctions can include blocks, topic-bans, or other restrictions.
Editors may report violations of these restrictions to the Arbitration enforcement noticeboard.

If you are unsure if your edit is appropriate, discuss it here on this talk page first. When in doubt, don't revert!

Confused

Definetly confusing I thought it was the airstrike on lebenase hezbullah but this one is tehran so hense confused template ElijahPepe Baratiiman (talk) 03:52, 31 July 2024 (UTC)

Not how you use the template. Apparently, I can't revert you, so the onus is on you to remove it. elijahpepe@wikipedia (he/him) 04:07, 31 July 2024 (UTC)
just because not everyone is reading gloval news 24 hours a day let's keep the thing Baratiiman (talk) 04:08, 31 July 2024 (UTC)
Neither do I. elijahpepe@wikipedia (he/him) 04:11, 31 July 2024 (UTC)

"Palestinian resistence movement" is biased language.

Calling Hamas a resistence movement is highly biased language

"Haniyeh was a prominent figure within the Palestinian resistance movement since 1980." Especially considering it is considered a terrorist organisation by much of the western world. More appropriate wording would be "prominent within the Hamas movement" Yadinbro (talk) 05:38, 31 July 2024 (UTC)

Even if so, I wonder who the hell made him a member of Hamas 7 years before it was founded. Borgenland (talk) 05:43, 31 July 2024 (UTC)

Not done: please provide reliable sources that support the change you want to be made. Besides, per WP:ARBPIA and the banner on top of this page, non-extended confirmed accounts are allowed only to make straightforward edit requests here, and not to argue their personal POV. — kashmīrī  08:59, 31 July 2024 (UTC)

Would want to correct named reference ":2" to the following (can be found at the end of the "Killing" section):

It seems someone forgot a pipe symbol when listing the authors. Thanks in advance. TommyGundam (talk) 08:46, 31 July 2024 (UTC)

It's fixed. Thanks. David O. Johnson (talk) 09:05, 31 July 2024 (UTC)

Move

@Blackorchidd, @WeatherWriter, please don't move this page unilaterally. Start a WP:RM if you need to. Consider that "Murder of" might also be an option given it is being considered both a violation of local (Iranian) law and international law.VR (Please ping on reply) 11:51, 31 July 2024 (UTC)

Agree, and undiscussed moves should be reverted. This was assassination, and we have already had a similar discussion at Talk:Assassination of Qasem Soleimani. Feel free to move back as I can't do that myself due to 1RR. — kashmīrī  11:56, 31 July 2024 (UTC)
@Schwede66 since you move protected the page, can you determine which title it should remain at pending an RM? It was started at "killing of". I can't tell if it was a stub or not when it was moved to "assassination of".VR (Please ping on reply) 12:35, 31 July 2024 (UTC)
I don't mind. The important part is that we don't have redirects from the main page, hence if it gets moved, the admin should also adjust the ITN item. Schwede66 12:43, 31 July 2024 (UTC)

Requested move 31 July 2024

The following is a closed discussion of a requested move. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section on the talk page. Editors desiring to contest the closing decision should consider a move review after discussing it on the closer's talk page. No further edits should be made to this discussion.

The result of the move request was: page moved. The article is less than a day old. Give it some time before submitting another RM. – wbm1058 (talk) 13:18, 31 July 2024 (UTC)

Killing of Ismail HaniyehAssassination of Ismail Haniyeh – Leader of an organization was killed. By definition, an assassination. Following nearly 6+ unchallenged hours of the title being “assassination”, an undiscussed move occurred to change it to “killing”, despite a very obvious WP:COMMONNAME for “assassination”. Can we get a speedy close for this to revert this undiscussed move?

Uses for “assassination”:

  1. Associated Press
  2. CNN
  3. Al Jazeera — Pro-Hamas
  4. TIME
  5. The Jerusalem Post — Pro-Israel
  6. Reuters — Reactions: Includes foreign heads calling it “assassination”.
  7. BBC
  8. Fox News
  9. CBS News
  10. Forbes
  11. The Washington Post
  12. Haaretz
  13. Euronews
  14. NDTV
  15. Indian Express
  16. Axios

I will say, it appears NBC News does not actually say “assassination” and only “killed”, however, they include foreign head reactions which have “assassination” 8 times in their article. Still, a clear COMMONNAME/COMMONSTerm for “assassination”. I could go on listing news articles, but those above should be enough to revert this undiscussed move away from “assassination”. The Weather Event Writer (Talk Page) 12:15, 31 July 2024 (UTC)

Support per common usage. Borgenland (talk) 12:16, 31 July 2024 (UTC)
Al Jazeera is not "pro-Hamas".VR (Please ping on reply) 12:36, 31 July 2024 (UTC)
WP:ALJAZEERA — “Some editors say that Al Jazeera, particularly Al Jazeera Arabic, is a partisan source on the Arab–Israeli conflict and on topics for which the Qatari government has a conflict of interest.” As far as Misplaced Pages’s reliable source policy is, they are partisan and anti-Israel…I.e. pro-Hamas/pro-Palestine. That part isn’t up for debate as it is fairly obvious they are partisan. The Weather Event Writer (Talk Page) 12:38, 31 July 2024 (UTC)

Suggest limiting the number of due country responses before we end up waiting for some Pacific island reaction. Borgenland (talk) 12:18, 31 July 2024 (UTC)

NPOV

The current analysis section is a violation of WP:NPOV. Kashmiri noted that it was strongly POV and tried to remove it. In response האופה said "you are welcome to add other views" and reverted them. Yet, when I added such views, they either deleted those views or moved them to a different section, leaving the section quite pro-Israeli again.VR (Please ping on reply) 13:11, 31 July 2024 (UTC)

Hey @Vice regent, you are welcome to add other views, really. But keep in mind that the "Analysis" part is usually dedicated to what analysts, journalists and leading outlets have to say on a topic. Government responses usually belong at the "Responses" section. HaOfa (talk) 13:21, 31 July 2024 (UTC)
I would also ask you not to use terms as "pro-Israeli" or "pro-Palestinian" in Misplaced Pages discussions, they are really not constructive. We're dealing with what reliable, notable sources have to say on the matter. The section includes what BBC, CNN, as well as Yedioth and JPost have to say on the matter, all of those are reliable and prominent newspapers. HaOfa (talk) 13:24, 31 July 2024 (UTC)
You distorted Nick Patton's opinion into saying this "challenges" Iran's sovereignty, while Patton wrote "the attack is clearly a grave violation of its sovereignty".VR (Please ping on reply) 13:32, 31 July 2024 (UTC)
In other words, they violated the 1RR policy. האופה are you going to self-revert? M.Bitton (talk) 13:24, 31 July 2024 (UTC)
The second diff doesn't seem a revert to me, all I was doing is to move text from one section to another. Please stop this. HaOfa (talk) 13:33, 31 July 2024 (UTC)
Your call. @Vice regent: since they have no intention of self-reverting, I suggest you report them to the admins. Please ping me when you do. M.Bitton (talk) 13:34, 31 July 2024 (UTC)
Guys, what's the issue? the content you say was reverted is still on the article. O.maximov (talk) 13:40, 31 July 2024 (UTC)
