Fellow Wikipedians, I'm about to take a hiatus on most editing, starting with lightening up on monitoring of beauty pageant articles. It's a mess of <s>unattributed</s> unreferenced content, nonstandard markup including inappropriate use of flags, and ... let's say passionate editors. I hope that others like {{ping|Sciencefish}} can keep the momentum moving in the right direction. This is after all an encyclopedia, not a fansite. I've listed some pages to watch at the top of this note, which I'll soon be taking off of my own watchlist. Note that many of these pages are protected due to persistent disruptive editing (including sockfarms) and all are under WP:GS/PAGEANTS. ☆ <span style="white-space:nowrap;font-family: Papyrus">]</span> (]) 16:54, 8 August 2024 (UTC)

== Miss Teen USA (& Miss USA) articles ==

Hi Bri. While I was taking a break from WP I noticed you redirected many of the Miss Teen USA and Miss USA articles. Most have significant media coverage as evidenced by a quick search in Newspapers.com, but at the moment the Misplaced Pages Library connection is broken so that while I can ''search and view'' the articles, I can't clip them to reference in the article. Just wondering what the best way forward would be? Wait until they (hopefully) fix the Newspapers.com connection? Or just reference the newspaper details without a clipping link? I was able to fix some of the Miss USA articles from existing clips but the job would be a lot easier starting the research from scratch. Cheers ] (]) 11:17, 26 August 2024 (UTC)
:Not sure exactly which page you intend to work on, but I think the ones I redirected had at most one or two sources. I guess the best way is to wait until your sources are accessible, then restore the page from the last revision prior to the redirect, and add the sources? Still, adding just one source to a one-source article probably won't be good enough for general notability, so I hope you plan to bring them up to snuff for ]. ☆ <span style="white-space:nowrap;font-family: Papyrus">]</span> (]) 17:22, 26 August 2024 (UTC)

:Personally I don't have a big problem with Instagram sourcing for announcements of regional contestants, but I don't think it's good to have the entire article based on Instagram alone. Running from October 1 to 31, 2024, WikiProject Women in Green (WiG) is hosting a Good Article (GA) edit-a-thon event with the theme '''Around the World in 31 Days'''! All experience levels welcome. Never worked on a GA project before? We'll teach you how to get started. Or maybe you're an old hand at GAs – we'd love to have you involved! Participants are invited to work on nominating and/or reviewing GA submissions related to women and women's works (e.g., books, films) during the event period. We hope to collectively cover article subjects from at least '''31 countries''' (or broader international articles) by month's end. GA resources and one-on-one support will be provided by experienced GA editors, and participants will have the opportunity to earn a special WiG barnstar for their efforts.

We hope to see you there!

Hello Bri

Earlier today, you removed ‘a blank row’ that was for Miss Universe Turkey. This was incorrect and should not have been done, as it clearly states in the Returns, that Turkey is participating.

I have corrected this error as the winner HAS been announced for Miss Universe Türkiye 2024.

Please bear this in mind during any future edits.

Kindest regards

Edit - I cannot seem to reply to you directly so have added my newer reply to you here.

As my above comment states, you removed the row for Turkey, when the pageant was clearly taking place tonight. Go back and look at the previous edit history. At 15.22pm this afternoon, you made that edit.

Excuse me, but it IS permissible to add the winner of a pageant, along with the {{citation needed}} tag, as often we view the pageant online via streaming etc, and get the name of the winner, then after searching for a suitable reference, we can then cite that reference. Also, when I’ve seen a pageant is coming up, especially within the next 24 hours, other editors will add the flag deco and country name etc, in order that they or another editor will find it easier to input that winner etc. I’ve seen this happen this way for years, before I started editing on here.

:: Also, is there a way to run ] on all the wiki-DBs (without manually setting the database)? You seem to have known Quarry for a while! ] (]) 19:08, 21 October 2024 (UTC)
:::Perhaps not on Quarry. There are some SQL hacks but the server seems to be set up to disallow the USE statement and probably would not allow the hacks as well. ☆ <span style="white-space:nowrap;font-family: Papyrus">]</span> (]) 19:17, 21 October 2024 (UTC)
:::: Indeed not on Quarry. I have a script setup on ] to run a query on all wikis. Running that now. The reason "USE" doesn't work is that different wikis' databases are stored on different servers, not that it's disallowed. ] ] 19:29, 21 October 2024 (UTC)
::::: I think what I was trying to say was that even a fancy {{code|Union}} workaround to access two tables would require the use of {{code|USE}}, but that won't work because USE has been blocked on Quarry. But maybe I don't know what I'm talking about. Your explanation that it's not just separate tables but separate ''databases'' is more accurate, probably. ☆ <span style="white-space:nowrap;font-family: Papyrus">]</span> (]) 21:17, 21 October 2024 (UTC)
::] is WMF's statement on the fr.wiki OAs. ] (]) 19:47, 21 October 2024 (UTC)
::: Has this been covered by The Signpost? It seems an unprecedentedly detailed intervention (not attributing any negative motives) by WMF into content, going to the extent of suggesting how the community ought to write articles, deal with COI requests, etc. ] (]) 19:52, 21 October 2024 (UTC)
