Hi, sorry if this is in the wrong place, but: the GDP figures listed near the top of the article are both incorrect. They should read "million" not "billion"; in other words, the figures listed are one thousand times too high. | |||

Government system
It says on this article that Singapore is a Parliamentary Republic but how so? Ever since the amendment that allowed for the direct election of the President, I thought that Singapore should be considered as a Semi-Presidential System. 161.142.11.225 (talk) 05:10, 14 April 2024 (UTC)
- The president has little to none de facto power despite being directly elected. Everything the president does with its perceived powers are ceremonial and almost always done while "acting on the advice of the prime minister". A similar example would be the British monarch. - Question: Where would you like this added? ''']''' (talk • contribs) 13:17, 2 June 2024 (UTC)
- I've added this map for you in the "Post-war period" section, considering it is from 1951. MordukhovichAleakin (talk) 19:45, 3 August 2024 (UTC)
Removal of modified version of Singapore State Crest
Under Singapore's National Symbols Act with effect on 1 August 2023, distortion or modification of the design of the State Crest and Presidential Crest will not be allowed. If there's no contest to this in 3 days, I will remove it to comply with local regulations. SecretSquirrel78 (talk) 16:41, 8 June 2024 (UTC)

Quality and Tone of Statistics
"Singaporeans enjoy one of the longest life expectancies, fastest Internet connection speeds, lowest infant mortality rates, and lowest levels of corruption in the world."
According to https://en.wikipedia.org/List_of_sovereign_states_by_Internet_connection_speeds it would be more accurate to use the M-Lab data. Top band being around 200 MBit/s, next around 150 MBit/s, next around 125 MBit/s, then 100 MBit/s. Singapore is in the 100 MBit/s category. It would be incorrect to suggest the internet here is one of the fastest internet speeds.
The other metrics, longest life expectancies (https://en.wikipedia.org/List_of_countries_by_life_expectancy) is high, perhaps not significantly different. Lowest infant mortality rates (under-fives), https://en.wikipedia.org/List_of_countries_by_infant_and_under-five_mortality_rates, is a difficult metric and may not be super accurate or a reasonable comparison ("Note that due to differences in reporting, these numbers may not be comparable across countries." - List of countries by infant and under-five mortality rates, Misplaced Pages). Percieved perceptions, https://en.wikipedia.org/Corruption_Perceptions_Index, could stem from cultural and political practice. For example, "Singapore frequently uses overly broad and restrictive laws to silence criticism of the government and restrict the rights to freedom of expression and peaceful assembly." Human Rights Watch, https://www.hrw.org/world-report/2024/country-chapters/singapore. Culturally, the adoption of a hierarchical obiedience and the need for harmony will influence the perceptions metric.
Although many of the metrics of this highly developed nation are impressive, it seems the tone of the delivery of this information may be incorrect and misleading. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 49.179.39.50 (talk) 23:42, 22 September 2024 (UTC)

"Singapore, officially the Republic of Singapore, is an island country and city-state in maritime Southeast Asia".
Singapore very much is in Maritime Southeast Asia, but if you click on the article Maritime Southeast Asia and check each country individually you'll see that Singapore is the only one that begins with "a country in Maritime Southeast Asia" and not just "a country in Southeast Asia" (with the exception of Indonesia, which is in Southeast Asia and Oceania). So I suggest to either 1. change all of the articles for the countries in Maritime Southeast Asia to include "maritime" or 2. (the more reasonable one, my actual edit request):
- Please change "city-state in maritime Southeast Asia" to "city-state in Southeast Asia".
If there's some politics to this I'm not aware of, my bad! But as far as I can tell this is just a case of being overly specific and not being consistent with other articles.
FAILING THE ABOVE - please only regard this if my suggested edit above is not done. Please change "city-state in maritime Southeast Asia" to "city-state in Maritime Southeast Asia", because it's supposed to be capitalised (check the MSA article itself, where it always is capitalised).
Thank you! 2A02:C7E:2F68:AC00:B043:273:5060:1AC0 (talk) 01:34, 13 November 2024 (UTC)
- Done Consistency seems ideal, but I, too, wanted to make sure there wasn't "some politics to this" so I searched through talk page archives as well as the good and featured article reviews but found no mention of the inclusion of "maritime" in the lead. It looks like it got added during a pretty significant overhaul of the article in 2020 by a no longer active editor, with the helpful edit summary of "maritime Southeast Asia". That edit also included "located within the Malay Archipelago" which has since been removed from the lead. Per your request and for the sake of consistency with other articles I've removed "maritime" and changed the link to Southeast Asia. DrOrinScrivello (talk) 20:04, 13 November 2024 (UTC)
