"Take You Down" is a song by American singer-songwriter SZA. It was intended to be a track on Lana (2024), the reissue of her second studio album SOS (2022).
Background
American singer-songwriter SZA released her second studio album SOS on December 9, 2022, to widespread acclaim and high commercial success. The album garnered a score of 90 on the review aggregate website Metacritic, debuted atop the Billboard 200, broke a string of chart records, and spawned several career milestones. SZA teased the imminent release of its deluxe version on Instagram upon SOS's release, and she teased it again on a December 21 post, where she expressed gratitude for the album's number-one debut: "Imma take another swing at it for the deluxe then shut up for a while."
In September 2023, SZA officially that the deluxe edition became a "whole 'nother" album, a reissue titled Lana. She once again alluded its release was on the way through an Instagram post, captioned "Never fight over community dick", on March 12. Accompanying it was a video that shows SZA as she poses in a camping tent, wearing nothing but a red bikini. A day later, SZA posted the song on Twitter and revealed she recorded the video in her garage the night after she finished the song, on March 11.
Release
"Take You Down" was intended to appear on Lana, but SZA's manager, Punch, told her to exclude it from the final tracklist. Hours after the reissue's release, she shared text conversations between the two on social media, in which she asked him to release "Take You Down" alongside "PSA", another Lana outtake, sometime soon. He replied by saying she can "give it to for new years or Christmas."
