Gajendranath lived with Rajanikanta Sen, a Bengali poet. Ratneshwar had nine more brothers. Out of them, only Ratneshwar and Siddheshwar was interested in music. Kazi Najrul Islam was a friend of Ratneshwar Mukherjee. Ratneshwar Mukherjee was expert in both ancient Bengali music and modern music. He was famous as a music teacher. He was commonly known as 'Ratu Mukhapadhay' among other Bengali musicians.
