The Laura Taber Barbour Air Safety Award recognizes and celebrates original and remarkable worldwide contributions in the field of aviation safety since 1956. One winner is selected each year from across the world by an award committee consisting of well-respected aviation professionals.

The award, given annually in recognition of excellence in aviation safety leadership, is usually presented at the International Air Safety Seminar of the Flight Safety Foundation. Notable winners include:

Don Bateman: for his leadership in developing Ground Proximity Warning System (GPWS) equipment that has been instrumental in reducing controlled flight into terrain (CFIT).

Pilar Vera Palmés: For her extraordinary international humanitarian efforts in support of the victims of aviation accidents and their families over the last decade.

James Martin: for his leadership in the design and development of low altitude ejection seats of exceptional performance.
