Joseph Wilpert (22 August 1856 - 13 February 1944) was a German archaeologist, Roman Catholic priest, scholar of iconography and member of the German Archaeological Institute.
He was born in Bauerwitz (now in Poland) and moved to Rome to specialise in the study of canon law. There he met Giovanni Battista de Rossi, who convinced him to dedicate himself to study the iconography of the early Christian cemeteries of Rome. He was passionate about drawing and produced more than 600 reproductions of the cemeteries' frescoes based on photographs. He died in Rome.
