The Georgia Tribe of Eastern Cherokee Inc. is a state-recognized tribe and non-profit organization based in the US state of Georgia.
History
The Georgia Tribe of Eastern Cherokee was recognized as a tribe by the State of Georgia in 2007.
On May 6, 2016, the Office of Federal Acknowledgement denied the organization's request for federal recognition as an American Indian tribe.
The three federally recognized Cherokee tribes - the Cherokee Nation, the United Keetoowah Band of Cherokee Indians, and the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians - regard the Georgia Tribe of Eastern Cherokee and other state-recognized Cherokee tribes as fraudulent organizations.
