Michele Kanan (/keɪnən/; born November 26, 1972) is an American director, producer, and author, best known for her Emmy award winning television show, STUDiO CiTY.

Early life

Kanan was born Michele Callico in Detroit, MI, to Kathleen and Frank Callico.

Career

STUDiO CiTY

Kanan's first notable project was that Head Writer, Executive Producer and the only female executive on the project. Her efforts propelled the series to it's Emmy wins in 2020 and 2021. Kanan co-wrote and produced the Emmy Award-winning digital drama series STUDiO CiTY, directed by Timothy Woodward Jr., as a somewhat autobiographical love letter to the Daytime Soaps. Kanan's husband Sean stars as Sam Stevens, who portrays Dr. Pierce Hartley on the show-with-in-a show “Hearts on Fire”, along with Soap veterans Tristan Rogers, Carolyn Hennesy, Sarah Joy Brown, Patrika Darbo, and Scott Turner Schofield, the first openly transgender actor on Daytime TV. The episodes are penned by Kanan, along with Sean Kanan, Timothy Woodward Jr., and Lauren de Normandie (season one). The series explores issues like #meToo sexual harassment, ageism, gender identity and surprise paternity with enough levity to keep the story moving. STUDiO CiTY was truly a family affair, with Kanan's Emmy-nominated husband Sean Kanan writing / producing and her daughter, Juliet Vega starring as Sam's surprise love child. STUDiO CiTY is streaming on Amazon Prime, Roku, Tubi.

BLOODHOUND

Kanan wrote, directed and produced. “Bloodhound” follows a retired FBI agent, played by Sean Kanan, battling dementia. Once known as the best tracker in the bureau, he’s now out of the game but haunted by an unsolved case: the disappearance of a notorious art thief rumored to have pulled off the heist of the century. Based on true event of the Isabella Gardner Museum Heist in 1990. Officially, the thief is dead, but Special Agent Stone doesn’t buy it. With his memory slipping, this case becomes more than just a job—it’s his last chance to prove he’s still got the instincts to his granddaughter. BLOODHOUND is streaming on Popstar TV.

Daytime Emmy and Walk of Fame

Kanan's career has been acknowledged through numerous industry awards including the Daytime Emmy for her series STUDiO CiTY. In 2022, Kanan received the 452th star on the Walk of Fame in Palm Springs.

Personal life

Michele and Sean Kanan married in July 2012. He has a daughter by his prior relationship and Michele has four children of her own.

Kanan is an active advocate for anti-bullying. Her charities include the American Cancer Society, Project Angel Food, and Palm Springs Animal Shelter.
