The Gateway Shopping Centre, also colloquially known as "The Gateway" is a regional shopping centre run by Knight Frank within the approximate centre of Langwarrin, being around 42 kilometres south east of the Melbourne central business district. The complex comprises approximately 40 stores, including parking for 490 parking spaces. The Gateway is located at the crossroads of the major arterial Frankston-Cranbourne Road, and the two collector roads of Southgateway and Pindara Blvd. The centre predominance comes from the Coles supermarket located inside.
History
In 1980 the first stores in the shopping centre were built close to the intersection of Frankston-Cranbourne Road and Southgateway.
In 1983 the main entrance to the store was built, but the two halves did not connect inside the building, and patrons had to walk outdoors to enter each building separately.
In 1991 a McDonalds and fuel station were built, now run by BP.
From 1997-1999 the new site was built which featured the connection of the two parts of the mall and a large store area which is now occupied by Coles.
In the first half of 2021 the Target Country store shut down in the centre.
Retailers
Retailers at The Gateway include a variety of restaurants, fast food, entertainment, groceries and more.
Major retailers include Coles, McDonalds, Baker's Delight, Liquorland, and more.
It also includes minor retailers, including Jetts, Revo Fitness, OBrien Real Estate, the Australia Post, a BP, and more. It also includes a minor food court within its centre, with minor retailers within.
Competition
The Gateway has two main local shopping centre competitors, Bayside Shopping Centre and Karingal Hub Shopping Centre. They all serve generally the same target populations. Note that Langwarrin Plaza Shopping Centre is run by the same administration as The Gateway Shopping Centre and thus are not competition.
