Thank you @uscedu for accepting me when I auditioned for the Dramatic Arts program in 2006 🎭. Thank you @uscedu for continuing to support me as I then tried to be a Cinematic Arts/ Photography major before abruptly dropping out after surgery in 2009. Thank you forever to @uscedu for welcoming me back when I randomly returned at age 30 in 2018, boldly yet naively requesting to switch my major to Cognitive Science then finally to Neuroscience, even though my GPA was quite low from expired incomplete grades! Thank you infinitely to USC Financial Aid for miraculously covering my full tuition & book fees📚, to California for covering my mental & physical healthcare, to my medications Latuda & Prozac, to my family & friends who supported and encouraged me on the arduous & enlightening journey♥️, my brilliant professors👨‍🏫👩‍🏫, compassionate research mentors🧠, patient tutors📊, generous lab mates👩‍🔬👨‍🔬, the talented @uscthornton school of music 🎶for guiding my songwriting on Walking Away From the Dream🔮, and to the incredibly intelligent @uscedu students 👩‍🎓👨‍🎓who inspire me every single day🤩! I never thought I would be able to pass Calculus🧮, Chemistry🧪, & Molecular Neuroscience🔬 to get this degree, but thanks to my steady support system I survived and even made it on the Dean's List for several semesters! 🙏 Most importantly, I would like to say thank you to all of the animals who provided me comfort during this challenging time. ♥️ I am also eternally grateful and indebted to the countless animals who were sacrificed to further the fields of neuroscience and medical research🪰🪱🐠🐁🐀🐇🐓🦧🦍🐒🐕🐈‍⬛🐈🐖🦑. Deepest thanks to the precious little Shrimp 🦐 that I sacrificed during a neurotransmitter experiment in order to get this degree, thank you always. 🙏🎓👩🏼‍🎓💙🙏#thankful #feelingblessed #uscalumni #uscdornsifegrad #uscneuroscience #uscdramaticarts #usccinematicarts🎬 #uscthorntonschoolofmusic #neuroscience #neurodivergent #bipolarawareness #bipolargraduates #latuda #prozac". Started my journey at USC studying acting and film from 2006-2009, but had to have surgery to remove my gall bladder in the middle of spring semester and didn't feel well enough to go back. Almost 10 years later, I decided to return to USC to study cognitive science in hopes of better understanding depression. During my first psychology class, I became enamored with the biology of the brain and decided to switch my major to neuroscience. Being in the home stretch feels surreal — there is still so much left for me to learn. Humbled by the infinite depth of science & very thankful for my education 🧬⚗️🦠🧫".
