New United Motor Manufacturing, Inc. is an auto manufacturing plant in Fremont, California. When it began production in 1984, it was the first joint venture plant in the united states. The factory was an old General Motors plant and is now a joint venture between GM and Toyota. It has produced vehicles such as the Chevrolet Nova, Toyota Corolla, Geo Prizm and the later Chevrolet Prizm, Toyota Tacoma, and the Pontiac Vibe (similar to the Toyota Matrix). Employment is nearly 5,000 workers.
