Porygon-Z (ポリゴンZ, Porigon Zetto, PorygonZ in original Japanese language versions) are one of the fictional species of Pokémon creatures from the multi-billion-dollar Pokémon media franchise—a collection of video games, anime, manga, books, trading cards, and other media created by Satoshi Tajiri. The purpose of Porygon-Z in the games, anime, and manga, as with all other Pokémon, is to battle both wild Pokémon—untamed creatures that characters encounter while embarking on various adventures— and tamed Pokémon creatures owned by Pokémon trainers.

Biological characteristics

Porygon-Z's appearance is similar to that of Porygon and Porygon2, which were supposedly earlier designs by Silph Co. The programming added to create Porygon-Z was intended to allow it to surpass all other Pokémon, but as a result, Porygon-Z began to exhibit numerous errors and glitches.

Porygon-Z appears similar to Porygon2, albeit darker in color, and most notably, with its head and body completely upside down, to go along with its status as a glitch. Its legs are attached oddly as well. The blue pattern on a Porygon2's stomach is also different; it now appears as a blue ring on Porygon-Z. Finally, its eyes are large and yellow with rings around the pupils, emphasizing the Pokémon being shocked.

In the video games

Porygon-Z is the second evolved form of Porygon, a Pokémon introduced in Pokémon Red and Blue. Wild Porygon can be found in Pokémon Diamond and Pearl at the Trophy Garden. By trading a Porygon with the Up-Grade item, it becomes Porygon2; trading Porygon2 with the Dubious Disc results in Porygon-Z. This makes it the first Pokémon to evolve twice by trade. It also has the highest Special Attack stat of the Normal type and of any non-legendary (equal to that of Alakazam), improved from that of its pre-evolution. Its Speed is also improved significantly. Although its defenses have been decreased, it can outrun nearly anything that poses a threat to it, most notably several Fighting Pokémon. Its abilities are Download and Adaptive: the former raises either Porygon-Z's Attack (if the foe's Special Defense>Defense), or Special Attack (if the foe's Defense>Special Defense); and the latter boosts the power of all same-type attacks.
