Hans Christian Schmidt (born August 25 1953) has been the Danish Minister of Food since 2 August 2004, as member of the Cabinet of Anders Fogh Rasmussen I and II. Before that, he was the Minister for the Environment from November 27 2001 in the Cabinet of Anders Fogh Rasmussen I. He is a member of the Liberal Party, and has been a member the Folketinget (parliament) since the 1994 Danish parliamentary election.
Schmidt was born to Holger and Ingrid Schmidt, both farmers. He is a long time resident of the town of Vojens in southern Denmark (Jutland). He was originally trained as a school teacher in Vojens before entering government. He is a member of the Venstre, Danmarks Liberale Parti (Liberal Party).
