The Tri Nations Series, is an annual rugby union competition between the national teams of Australia, New Zealand and South Africa. The 2007 Tri Nations series will kick off in South Africa on June 16, with a test between the Springboks and the Wallabies.
The 2007 series will be a six-test tournament (two home matches each) to allow for the Rugby World Cup 2007 which kicks off on 7 September. The draw has been scheduled to ensure that no teams plays more than two matches in a row, with the early finish giving the Springboks, All Blacks and Wallabies seven full weeks before the start of the Rugby World Cup.
The Tri Nations will revert back to an expanded nine-Test series from 2008 onwards, assuming it remains in its current three-team format. The worldwide governing body for rugby union, the International Rugby Board, is currently brokering a deal that may see Argentina admitted to the competition as early as 2008.
