The '''R68''' subway car is a joint venture of ], ], and other companies. With a contract to deliver 425 R-68 cars, R68 was built in France and shipped to New York Harbor. It is the first of two contracts of R68. R68 was built in combined by ] and ] features to built in a better state of the art subway car with high MDBF (Mean Distance Between Failure), perfoming better service. R68 is the third R-class contract to be built in 75-foot cars. It holds more seats and more standedes. First enter pasanger revenue service was in 1986 on the D-Line, first cars 2500-2007. There were two contracts to the R68, the primary order was: 2500-2727 and the R68-1 option order was 2728-2924.
