Rex Gildo (July 2 1939 - October 26 1999), also known as Ludwig Alexander Hirtreiter, was a German singer.
He sang often with German-Danish singer Gitte Haenning, one of their best known songs is "Vom Stadtpark die Laternen".
In 1972 he had a huge hit with a song by Ralph Siegel, "Fiesta Mexicana (Hossa)".
In 1974 Rex Gildo married his cousin Marion Hirtreiter, which disappointed his millions of loyal female fans.
October 23rd 1999 Rex Gildo jumped out of a window of his apartment in Munich. He died on October 26th.
In 2007, "Fiesta Mexicana (Hossa)" was brought into a whole new generation of people when the New York Rangers started playing the song whenever winger Marcel Hossa scored a goal.
