'''Varivode''' (Вариводе in Serbian) is a village in the ] region of ], in the municipality of ]. Prior to the ] of 1991-1995 the village was a part of the municipality of ], and according to the census of 1991, it had a population of 477 people, all of them ethnic ]. During the war, Varivode and the surrounding area were incorporated into ]. In August 1995, Croatian army forces under the leadership of ] killed at least 12 elderly Serb civilians, some of them disabled, who had stayed in their homes on the eve of the invasion of ], and burned the village to the ground. Few Serbs have returned to the village; according to the 2001 census, Varivode currently has only 93 inhabitants. | |||
