The Syrian Arab Republic is a Middle-Eastern country that borders on Israel, Lebanon, Jordan, Iraq and Turkey.

Syria is a temporary member of the UN Security Council for 2002 through 2003. Its U.N. ambassador, Mikhail Webhe served as president of the Security Council during June 2002.
