From Power FM, Scott moved on to GWR FM, then part of GWR Group, Capital's main competitor (although they are now merged to form GCap Media), and stayed there for two years.<ref name=press/>

His next station was ] (now just Key 103) in Manchester, owned by ], the other major commercial radio operator, where he again moved quickly from the late night slot in to the mid-morning position.<ref name=press/>

==Private Life==
Scott has a brother, Wes, and his parents are separated,<ref name=unoff/> although both feature in the show at sporadic intervals.<ref name=feature/>

Mills 'came out' as homosexual to the press in 2001, even though he risked losing listeners.<ref>{{Cite news|last=Wells|first=Matt|publisher=The Guardian|url=http://www.guardian.co.uk/uk_news/story/0,,469908,00.html|title=Coming out nerves for Radio 1's early bird|date=April 7, 2001|accessdate=2007-06-26}}</ref> He seldom discusses his sexuality on-air, even to the point of (in jest) intimating himself being attracted to women, and rarely gives interviews on the subject, and in his Guardian interview, he plays it down, saying "I'd just like to be accepted as a normal bloke who is gay and is on the radio and the television."

According to the ''Independent on Sunday's'' ''Pink List'' for 2007, Mills is the 41st most influential gay person in Britain.<ref>{{cite news|publisher=The Independent on Sunday|url=http://news.independent.co.uk/uk/this_britain/article2516664.ece|title=Pink list 2007|date=6th May 2007|accessdaye-2007-06-26}}</ref> This ranking represents a rise of two places upon his position in the previous year's list.
