Gregg Popovich (born November 24, 1948 in East Chicago, Indiana) is a pro basketball coach. He is the current headcoach of the San Antonio Spurs and guided them to NBA championships in 1999 and 2003. He won the NBA Coach of the Year Award in 2002.
Popovich was one of the 7 coaches ever to have resigned from a coaching job in 1997, but he was appointed coach again.
Popovich was a 1970 graduate of the United States Air Force Academy, Colorado Springs, Colorado. Popovich is currently celebrating his 3rd NBA Championship as his Spurs defeated the Detroit Pistons in game 7 of the 2005 NBA finals.
