Creighton School was founded in Omaha, Nebraska in 1878, later separating into Creighton Prep and Creighton University. The school was named after Edward Creighton, an Omaha businessman whose wife, Mary Lucretia, left their fortune to the Roman Catholic Bishop to build a school for boys. At that time, the school was given to the Society of Jesus, known more commonly as the Jesuits. The initial enrollment was 120 students.

In 2004, the Catholic High School Honor Roll announced the selection of Creighton Preparatory School as one of the most prestigious 50 Catholic secondary schools in America. The school is an Omaha leader in both academics and athletics. Its football team has won 27 state Class A titles (the first in 1932 and the last in 2004). In addition, its Academic Decathlon team is a regular contender for the national championship in its division. The Science Bowl Team is currently state champion (2007) and competed in Washington D.C. for the national title.
