Sérgio Assad (b. 1952) is a Brazilian guitarist, composer, and arranger who often performs with brother, Odair Assad, under the names The Assad Brothers and Duo Assad. His US debut was in New York in 1969, although he was already performing in his native Brazil. He has also made numerous transcriptions and arrangements for both solo guitar and guitar duo including music by Ástor Piazzolla. Assad studied classical guitar with Monina Tavora (a student of Andrés Segovia) for seven years. Sergio and Odair's sister, Badi, is also a classical guitarist.
