The name Brian (sometimes spelled Bryan) comes from an Irish backround. It is of Celtic origin and its meaning may be "hill" or "strong, noble, and high".

An ancient High King of Ireland, Brian Boru, defeated the Vikings in the Battle of Clontarf of 1014, leading to Brian becoming one of the most popular names in Ireland during the past millennium.
