Saverio "Sammy" Santora was a high ranking member of the Genovese crime family, one of the five major Mafia factions in New York City.

In the late 1970's, Santora took over as Capo of Antonio "Buckaloo" Ferro's powerful East Harlem 116th Street Crew. Santora quickly became one of the most powerful captains in the family. The crew was involved in illegal gambling, bookmaking, loan sharking, heroin trafficking and labor racketeering, specifically in the NYC District of Carpenters.

In 1981, longtime Boss Philip Lombardo went into semi-retirement. Vincent "Chin" Gigante and Santora were the prime candidates to become Boss, being two of the most respected and influential members of the family. Lombardo made Gigante the Boss and Santora the Underboss. Santora would continue as Underboss of the family until his death in the late 1980's.

Acting Boss Liborio Bellomo is considered a protege of Santora.
