Most tickle torture is caused when someone straps another person into any contraption, which exposes the desired ticklish spot and restrains the victim from stopping the tickling. An example would be the stocks, a device that held the persons feet firmly in place and sometimes held the wrists to prevent the person from blocking anyone’s tickling fingers.
Another form is common between siblings, lovers, and friends. One or more people gang up on one person, and proceed to hold down that person and tickle them to the point of helpless laughter. This is commonly used to get someone to agree to something.
The last form of tickle torture is the deadly kind. You can't eat, sleep, or drink while laughing, so if someone were to strap you down and tickle you for days on end, you would almost certainly die. One purported example of this torture was used in Ancient Rome, where a person’s feet are dipped in a salt solution, and a goat is brought in to lick the solution off.
