Chewbacca (or Chewie), a character in the fictional Star Wars universe, is a 7-foot tall Wookie and co-pilot of the Millenium Falcon. While Chewie is perfectly able to understand 'Basic', he is unable to speak it due to his facial structure. He communicates with Han Solo using his own language, Wookie, while Solo always speaks to Chewie in Basic (see Languages in Star Wars).
