Discussion
BTW...
It is best we keep our personal info a secret, so predators/stalkers won't catch us and stuff. I'm doing good in that class, so heres the thing. Make sure what Misplaced Pages is about, edit the encyclopedia, and make sure your acustom to the policies and traditions in Misplaced Pages. Good luck and happy editing! :) PrestonH03:53, 5 December 2007 (UTC)
Okay, sure, I'll keep quiet about our personal stuff. (Though in my opinion, mentioning our teacher or our school is not really personal info, as opposed to revealing your home address.) And I'm not really a newcomer because I already familiarized myself and know the traditions of Misplaced Pages because I already edited bunches of times from my IP address (and I wish to not tell anyone what my address is, but if you check the articles about interstates, I think you can figure it out). I talk to you differently since I talk to a Wikipedian whom I know in real life. Just like my cousin you-know-who, I edit roads. I already know the standards; how do you think I got addicted to Misplaced Pages? Anyways, thanks, and have fun editing, too! AL2TBGab or Tab05:39, 5 December 2007 (UTC)
P.S. Also, unless you have another appropriate e-mail messenger and you wish me to ask you the following question there instead, I might ask you for math homework on Misplaced Pages because sometimes, I forget to copy it down from class. (Besides, it's better than calling you via telephone.)
At the top of each page, there is a watch tab. Clicking that tab will add the page to your watchlist. When someone edits that page, the change will appear on your watchlist, which can be used to guard pages you're interested in against vandalism, or even just to see if others are improving an article you wrote (or adding bad information or what not.) —Scott5114↗06:39, 5 December 2007 (UTC)
Welcome to Misplaced Pages!
Welcome!
Hello, AL2TB, and welcome to Misplaced Pages! Thank you for your contributions relating to roads. I hope you like the place and decide to stay. If you are stuck, and looking for help, please come to the New contributors' help page, where experienced Wikipedians can answer any queries you have! Or, you can just type {{helpme}} on your user page, and someone will show up shortly to answer your questions.
Please become familiar with the Misplaced Pages and U.S. Roads standards by checking out User:Rschen7754/Manual.
Additional road article-related questions can be answered at the following links: United States, Canada, or other countries. You may also ask questions at my talk page.
Remember that Misplaced Pages is an encyclopedia so try not to go overboard with the signatures, OK? Occasional signatures are alright, but what really counts is editing the articles and their content.
Please be aware that they are stalkers in Misplaced Pages, so giving out personal info is extremely dangerous (but I'm glad you are aware of it, see here).
The reason I locked my userpage is because it is vulnerable to vandalism and yeah.
My e-mail is enabled, and to enable yours, go to Special:Preferences and type in your e-mail address. I will usually introduce in my e-mail address to verify that I'm PrestonH. Go to here for confirmation.
You have to wait another few days until you can edit my page, which deters vandals away.
You seem to have a firm grip of wikimarking, so I apperciate your knowledge about that.
Well I'm not too paranoid about it, but I request an admin via e-mail to delete the personal info. Since you are obviously not a newcomer, I will be your guidance so I can help you with bits and pieces of policies (I already mention this in real life, so this is a reinforcement). Well. good luck! PrestonH17:09, 6 December 2007 (UTC)
My respone to the RfA
I would accept my RfA nomination. I'm pretty sure you can do the formatting and stuff for the nominations page. However, if my RfA dosen't succeed, I'll work out on my criticism and improve from there on. PrestonH06:29, 9 December 2007 (UTC)
What makes me think that very very new users as nominators are not so well-suited to raise my trust in an RfA? Well, e.g. things like this. I dorftrottel I talk I 19:18, December 9, 2007
Which would have been unnecessary. Please make sure you know what you're doing before you do it - I've seen many mistakes throughout your edits, made because you don't know what you are doing. --Rschen7754 (TC) 02:07, 14 December 2007 (UTC)
If it seems to you that I'm making mistakes, please remind me if I make some mistake again, and point to me where the rules is. I'll try to follow that from now on. Also, I created the afd because this administrator said that I can use the template if I create the page for discussion. Well, if that's not how it's supposed to be done, I'll read the policy and will try my best to follow it. Anyways, thanks again. AL2TBGab or Tab02:08, 14 December 2007 (UTC)
You misinterpreted his comment. TMF reverted this because your addition of PROD was unnecessary and because you did not create the needed subpage. Now, you have added a delay to the deletion of the article. --Rschen7754 (TC) 03:29, 14 December 2007 (UTC)
P.S. I warned people that I do make mistakes quite often, especially minor, silly mistakes. I try my best to correct them on my own, but if you (any editor out there) do catch one of my mistakes (or anyone else's for that matter), then you should correct it. If not, then I guess a revert should do. AL2TBGab or Tab02:14, 14 December 2007 (UTC)
Re: Your RFA was unsucessful
I'll improve as an editor like you say on my talk page, but there is a slim chance my intentions will switch toward adminship. If there is ever a case where I change my mind, then I will tell you in real life first than the others so you can nominate me. Thank you for nominating me for adminship though previously. :) PrestonH03:23, 14 December 2007 (UTC)
You didn't even touch the location column, and it was Geopgeop who did that. Also, you misinterpreted how NE2 did the exit lists - he combined two lists; you just randomly removed the header.
It is also clear to you that I make silly mistakes. I did not realize that I removed the header. All I was really doing was comparing a certain revision, copy that info of the exit lists (and I was not aware of the changes made since then). An IP made the location column look different. I was just trying to revert it back to the way it was. AL2TBGab or Tab06:28, 15 December 2007 (UTC)
Also, I used to edit as an IP before I enabled my cookies to create an account. Maybe one of those IP address (68.XXX.XXX.XXX, for example) is mine. I did touch the location column; I was just trying to revert back to the way it was. Therefore, I am not a new contributor, and I did read the guidelines in WP:IH and WP:CASH AL2TBGab or Tab06:31, 15 December 2007 (UTC)
You are committing the fallacy of self-righteousness. If you don't know what it is, it is confusing good intentions with good actions. --Rschen7754 (TC) 06:41, 15 December 2007 (UTC)
Do you think it's best that I should use the "Show Preview" button more often? I think that can ensure my mistakes can be cleared away before saving my revision. AL2TBGab or Tab06:43, 15 December 2007 (UTC)
Yes, and it is easier for others to see what you have done without digging through diffs. If you make multiple edits to do what could be done with one edit, it makes a mess. --Rschen7754 (TC) 06:53, 15 December 2007 (UTC)
It looks like your position in keeping US 6 in California has been mostly vindicated. Are you in a position to expand on this article and write about its history? If so I say lets do it before the issue is raised again. Davemeistermoab (talk) 03:01, 20 December 2007 (UTC)
Hey AL2TB, how is it going in real life? Merry Xmas dude, here is your present from yours truly...
I hope you enjoy this shiny gift/award from me (I recommend you put this on your userpage, your desicion). I'll see you again in real-life in a couple of weeks. Bye! PrestonH23:20, 22 December 2007 (UTC)
Thank you for the barnstar engraved as me. That was very kind of you ;). But the image of the barnstar you recently updated said it is "missing copyright status" over in this image. Can you provide a copyright liscense over at Commons so they won't delete the image after 7 days? Thanks! PrestonH22:33, 23 December 2007 (UTC)
What exactly is irreplaceable about Image:California bridge postmile.GIF? Anyone could make a free-use image in Inkscape in about ten minutes (in fact I'm planning on doing it after I post this)...it doesn't warrant uploading a fair use image. Avoid using fair use images as much as possible; we only use fair use images when we have no other options open, like on Johnny Olson (who died in 1982) or Family Feud (cameras aren't allowed into the studio). Good job providing the fair use criteria though! —Scott5114↗07:02, 26 December 2007 (UTC)
Thanks for the note. Hmm... I got to learn more about these images. Where is the best place to start learning on proper ways to upload them? AL2TBGab or Tab21:21, 26 December 2007 (UTC)
The appropriate policies for fair-use/non-free images is WP:FU (don't laugh...it really is! :P). You can also learn a bit by watching the image gurus in action at WP:IFD. —Scott5114↗01:47, 27 December 2007 (UTC)
There has been a fair amount of prior debate about the best title for the Chicago article; see for example this move request. The consensus at the time was that Chicago was the preferred name, and Chicago is listed at the Misplaced Pages:Naming conventions (settlements) guideline page as an exception to the canonical "City, State" format. Due to the prior discussion surrounding this issue, it may be preferable to file a move request and/or start a talk page discussion if you want to move it back to Chicago, Illinois, to see if consensus from the prior move request debate has changed. Regards. --Muchness (talk) 04:40, 28 December 2007 (UTC)
I must say your account is off at a great start, and you most of the wikimarkups and quite a few policies (course you've first read Misplaced Pages since 2004 which shouldn't come out too much of a surprise). Here is an important tip you might need (in case you didn't know). Make sure your account is secured to prevent it from being exploited. Here are the following links for further instructions...
To get the rollback tools for the Lupin anti-vandal tool on the first, follow the instructions given when you click on the link. It will mostly be involved on your monobook script and installing it. Similar instructions can be find in the "popups". The rollback only works if you are at the "history" of the article. The VandalProof requires manual downloading though (click link for further instructions). I'm pretty sure you know what a "rollback" works and how it functions, so you can choose which one (or more) that is mostly comfortable. PrestonH03:19, 29 December 2007 (UTC)
Um, no. Sorry. Unless everyone else has trouble reading it (and it appears that they can all read it just fine), I'm keeping this font. However, you can click the "edit" link and read from the text box for a more legible font. Otherwise, chances are you may need to work with your computer (probably the monitor's contrast and brightness in particular) or call a technician to fix your settings. AL2TBGab or Tab00:06, 30 December 2007 (UTC)
AL2TB - I understand the desire that you have to keep your talk page free of contentious issues. To that end, let's move this to MY talk page, I'll host any further discussion on this matter. (I have absolutely NO issue with controversial topics or discussions, it's ONLY Misplaced Pages...) Edit Centric (talk) 00:19, 30 December 2007 (UTC)
Of course it is. Thank you, I appreciate it. All I've been doing was following guidelines from the WP:ELG. Plus, I've tried to follow a similar approach of NE2's way of exit lists in other articles lately, only to get slapped in the face with "redundant" and "unneccessary". I guess we all have to come to some sort of compromise, like sticking with the county abbreviations in the mileposts. PhATxPnOY916 (talk) 02:25, 30 December 2007 (UTC)
Words of Wisdom...
Have you realize that NE2's 2nd RfC has been archived three months ago? You might want to remove the comments you made recently as that RfC is not active right now. PrestonH07:09, 30 December 2007 (UTC)
