Howe Sim
Howe Sim (born December 1, 1969) is a Canadian physician and photographer.
Born in Sibu, Malaysia, Sim emigrated to Canada with his family in 1973. He grew up in Vancouver and obtained his Bachelor of Science degree from Simon Fraser University. He attended medical school at the University of Calgary, after which he moved to Toronto for his postgraduate studies in internal medicine and gastroenterology.
During his postgraduate training, Sim developed an interest in digital photography. Within a few years, he had turned his initially fleeting interest in the field into a successful online business (www.howesim.com), which he now operates from his home-based studio in Acton, Ontario.
He specializes in nature and travel photography, but also invests much time in infant and pet portraiture. Because of his frequent travels, Sim has endless opportunities to capture new images and expand his portfolio, already one of the largest online by an individual photographer. His work has found its way into many private homes and corporations, and has appeared in numerous media publications and promotional materials. He has also authored two books featuring some of his best-selling and most popular photographs.
In addition to his photography, Sim works part-time as an internal medicine consultant in Mississauga, Ontario, and as an investigating coroner for the province. Sim also volunteers as a photographer for a local animal welfare society, as well as a non-profit organization that helps parents grieve the loss of their infant child through images taken during its final hours.
