Macacawitz was a pejorative term used by Meryl Ibis, an field organizer for Democratic congressional candidate Al Weed as a reference for incumbent U.S. Senator George Allen. The slur, which resulted in Ibis's resignation, was a portmanteau of "Macaca," a slur previously used by Allen, and "-witz," a common ending of Jewish surnames.
