Grant Kirkhope is a British video game music composer. He has written the soundtracks for many games by Rare. His compositions for games on the Nintendo 64 (most notably Banjo Kazooie and Perfect Dark) are amongst his most celebrated and better known works. Many fans of Grant are aggrieved that the composer and his music are not widely known within the gaming community and the quality of his compositions goes very much unsung. For example, he remains a virtual unknown in comparison to video-game music giants such as fellow Rare composer David Wise, and the legendary Koji Kondo. Before joining Rare in 1996, he played for two bands called Syar and Maineeaxe where he played guitar. His music featuring an electric guitar is played on a Fender Strat given to him by Van Halen.
