Welcome—request protection of a page, file, or template here.
    Shortcuts

Before requesting, read the protection policy. Full protection is used to stop edit warring between multiple users or to prevent vandalism to high-risk templates; semi-protection and pending changes are usually used to prevent IP and new user vandalism (see the rough guide to semi-protection); and move protection is used to stop pagemove revert wars. Extended confirmed protection is used where semi-protection has proved insufficient (see the rough guide to extended confirmed protection)

After a page has been protected, it is listed in the page history and logs with a short rationale, and the article is listed on Special:Protectedpages. In the case of full protection due to edit warring, admins should not revert to specific versions of the page, except to get rid of obvious vandalism.

    Talk:Fred Rogers (edit | article | history | links | watch | logs)

semi-protection Perpetual vandalism from IPs. The article is relatively stable and anon IPs never make constructive edits to it. The article gets IP-vandalized about four times a day. —Torc. 20:30, 20 February 2008 (UTC)

    Silk Road (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views)

Semi-protection. The page history shows that ~95% of all edits are IP vandalism and reverting of that vandalism. It's an important article. I would like to see it kept clean. SDC (talk) 17:18, 20 February 2008 (UTC)

Semi-protected for a period of 2 weeks, after which the page will be automatically unprotected. Rudget. 18:19, 20 February 2008 (UTC)

Semi-protection Very high amount of IP vandalism from multiple IP editors. Request at least one week semi-protection to allow article to proceed through prod process without constant disruption. - Dravecky (talk) 15:40, 20 February 2008 (UTC)

Semi-protected for a period of 2 days, after which the page will be automatically unprotected. I don't want to deny the IPs their option to deprod the article either though. Stifle (talk) 16:20, 20 February 2008 (UTC)

Didn't realize its status. No wonder it's receiving so much attention. Rhetorically, what constitutes 'extreme vandalism'? JNW (talk) 15:50, 20 February 2008 (UTC)
Have read this and associated pages. Helpful, but allows flexibility in interpretation. JNW (talk) 15:59, 20 February 2008 (UTC)

    Nuremberg Rally (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views)

Fond du Lac, Wisconsin (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views)

Semi-protection An anon using 2 IP addresses keeps inserting an unsourced statement that the television show That '70s Show is based upon the city. The show was based in Kenosha, Wisconsin according to the show, and a google search does not substantiate the edit. The "That '70s Show" article keeps getting the same edit, so that article should be considered for semi-protection too. I left a message in the edit summaries and on the first anon's talk page to no avail. Royalbroil 14:54, 20 February 2008 (UTC)

Comment - Seems more appropriate to report the users to WP:AIV if after sufficient warnings have been issued. The recent activity of the page doesn't really appear that disruptive. Wisdom89 (T / ) 15:04, 20 February 2008 (UTC)
Declined For now. There doesn't seem to be that much activity at the moment. - Rjd0060 (talk) 15:26, 20 February 2008 (UTC)

temporary full protection Dispute, edit revert war involving established users.Zedla (talk) 10:12, 20 February 2008 (UTC)

Related to users adding unsourced negative statements. Won't act here as I've reverted, but I've warned the users introducing the statements and if either of them reverts again they'll violate 3RR. Protection is probably not necessary. Stifle (talk) 13:37, 20 February 2008 (UTC)

semi-protection due to recent announcements in the format war between HD DVD and Blu-ray Disc causing a lot of recentism and predictive updates to the article. HD DVD is already under semi-protection. --StuffOfInterest (talk) 14:13, 19 February 2008 (UTC)

    Current requests for unprotection

    Shortcuts

Before posting, first discuss with the protecting admin on their talk page. Post below only if you receive no reply.

    • To find out the username of the admin who protected the page, click on "history" at the top of the page, then click on "View logs for this page," which is under the title of the page. The protecting admin is the username in blue before the words "protected", "changed protection level" or "pending changes". If there are a number of entries on the log page, you might find it easier to select "Protection log" or "Pending changes log" from the dropdown menu in the blue box.
    • Requests to downgrade full protection to template protection on templates and modules can be directed straight here; you do not need to ask the protecting admin first.
    • Requests for removing create protection on redlinked articles are generally assisted by having a draft version of the intended article prepared beforehand.
    • If you want to make spelling corrections or add uncontroversial information to a protected page, please add {{Edit fully-protected}} to the article's talk page, along with an explanation of what you want to add to the page. If the talk page is protected, please use the section below.

Check the archives if you cannot find your request. Only recently answered requests are still listed here.

Unprotection. As with Muffin top, the user Cumulus Clouds has been merging articles without achieving consensus, and I would like to revert this change so that consensus can be sought.-- JediLofty 12:02, 20 February 2008 (UTC)

    Unprotected Agreed. Jmlk17 20:43, 20 February 2008 (UTC)

    Gears of War 2 (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views)

unprotection due to recent announcements that officially confirmed that the game will actually be made. Article was previously deleted and 'salted' because several users kept creating the article out of speculation. However, with the recent news from third-party sources, article should be able to comply with WP:A and WP:N --ShadowJester07Talk 20:22, 20 February 2008 (UTC)

Current requests for significant edits to a protected page

    Shortcut

Ideally, requests should be made on the article talk page rather than here.

    • Unless the talk page itself is protected, you may instead add the appropriate template among {{Edit protected}}, {{Edit template-protected}}, {{Edit extended-protected}}, or {{Edit semi-protected}} to the article's talk page if you would like to make a change rather than requesting it here. Doing so will automatically place the page in the appropriate category for the request to be reviewed.
    • Where requests are made due to the editor having a conflict of interest (COI; see Misplaced Pages:Suggestions for COI compliance), the {{Edit COI}} template should be used.
    • Requests to move move-protected pages should be made at Misplaced Pages:Requested moves, not here.
    • If the discussion page and the article are both protected preventing you from making an edit request, this page is the right place to make that request. Please see the top of this page for instructions on how to post requests.
    • This page is not for continuing or starting discussions regarding content should both an article and its discussion page be protected. Please make a request only if you have a specific edit you wish to make.

    Template:Film (edit | talk | history | links | watch | logs)

Would like to request uncontroversial edit to fully protected template to implement diff already specified on the talk page, in order to finish setting up a new task force for New Zealand. Many thanks! Girolamo Savonarola (talk) 07:16, 14 February 2008 (UTC)

    Fulfilled/denied requests

John Payne (singer) (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views)

Semi-protection. An anonymous editor keeps removing the birth date from this article: 11 times since 11 February. Examples: , , . I've tried establishing communication through edit summaries and the user's talk page, but to no avail. However, note that the birth date information does not have a citation. I posted to WP:AN/I and it was suggested I come here. Bondegezou (talk) 13:48, 20 February 2008 (UTC)

    Ray Foley (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views)

Unprotection. Following the instructions above, I requested User:MZMcBride, as the admin who originally protected this page, to unprotect the above page on 18 February, and received this response, advising me to speak with the deleting admin. I had already done so here on 18 Feb, but did so again on 19 Feb, but still no response. Given that Ray Foley is definitely notable (having won a best national DJ award in Ireland last weekend), I'd like the opportunity to recreate this page again. --The.Q 12:23, 20 February 2008 (UTC)

Not unprotected This should probably go to Misplaced Pages:Deletion review before re-creation. I would recommend creating a draft version of the planned article in your sandbox first as well, just make sure you follow WP:BLP. Camaron | Chris (talk) 12:39, 20 February 2008 (UTC)

Great Wall of China (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views)

Semi-protection. Extremely high amounts of vandalism from IP addresses. Oidia (talk) 12:04, 20 February 2008 (UTC)

Declined There are quite a number of unregistered users making constructive/good faith edits, and vandalism although high, is not extreme enough to justify blocking them out. Camaron | Chris (talk) 12:13, 20 February 2008 (UTC)

    Muffin top (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views)

Unprotection. The user Cumulus Clouds has been merging articles without achieving consensus, and I would like to revert this change so that consensus can be sought. The other articles he merged Cameltoe, Cleavage (breasts), Toe cleavage and Whale tail have all been reverted, and consensus achieved that they should stay but, for some reason, Muffin top has been protected before this could happen to that article.-- JediLofty 09:14, 20 February 2008 (UTC)

Not unprotected It would be unhelpful to permit this article to be created. Stifle (talk) 10:54, 20 February 2008 (UTC)
See my response on Stifle's talk page.-- JediLofty 11:16, 20 February 2008 (UTC)

Semi protection Ok, not sure how to do this... Having it be so only admins can edit that page isn't logical, or helpful in any real ways. It has alot of edit wars, but so does ANY new article in the immportance area like that. Basicly, at this point a full protect is more unhelpful then anything.--Jakezing (talk) 03:21, 20 February 2008 (UTC)

unprotection. There is no reason for protection of this talk page, other than to prevent unregistered users from posting. There have been recent beneficial contributions to the talk page before the protection from IP users, and AFAIK no vandalism. The protection of the talk page may result in less contributions from these users. I can see the validity of protecting the article, but not the talk page. temporary full protection Dispute, An editor and myself are in disagreement about the neutrality of this article. I have put the POV tag at the top of the article and the other editor reverts the tag out repeatedly. I want to avoid this edit war, but the neutrality is still a problem (see the talk page). If possible, could the POV tag please be restored to the top of the article page, and then the article be protected so we may continue to try to work out the neutrality issues on the talk page? It seems silly to engage in an edit war over whether a POV tag belongs at the top of the article while neutrality discussions are ongoing on the talk page..SaltyBoatr (talk) 22:46, 19 February 2008 (UTC)
