Before Lapin came to CNN, she reported with CBS-2 in Palm Springs, California. There she reported live from San Quentin Prison during the execution of Stanley Williams. She also did a series on possible wrongful convictions in California. She had first explored this subject with the Center for Wrongful Convictions in Chicago, a group whose investigations led to a moratorium on executions in the state of Illinois.
She had also worked with the First Business Network reporting daily from the floor of the Chicago Mercantile Exchange. Her work with the network included her travels overseas to cover the surging value of the Euro and a position aboard the inaugural trans-Atlantic Wi-FI flight.
Lapin has been a general assignment reporter for KELO-TV in Sioux Falls, South Dakota and WKYT-TV in Lexington, Kentucky. Both stations are CBS affiliates.
Education
Lapin attended the prestigious performing arts high school, Los Angeles County High School for the Arts, where she was a ballet and modern dance major. Lapin graduated from the Medill School of Journalism at Northwestern University summa cum laude and as valedictorian of her class. Even though Lapin took time off to work professionally, she still was the youngest in her class. She received honors in her double-major, political science. Lapin also studied at European Union politics at L'Institut d'Etudes Politiques de Paris, or Sciences Po. She also attended Harvard University and Columbia University.
