With the popularity of Monopoly, one variation created in 1977 took the game's best features, removed the game's least liked features, and added additional useful features into a dog-themed game called Dogopoly. In additional to the usual Monopoly path around the board, two tracks were added within the center area to offer alternative routes. Also, several rules were changed to allow for much quicker game-play, with games typically lasting about two (2) hours rather than Monopoly's often-stalemated games.
A computerized version (DOS-based) was created in 1990 but had limited release.
In 2002, a high-quality 25th anniversary collector's edition was released by Spahits Games and the New-York Historical Society included a copy in their permanent exhibit originally called "Petropolis".
Instructions
Players take on the role of dogs walking on the sidewalk around the neighborhood and encounter things in a typical dog’s life, including Trees, Telephone Poles, Fire Hydrants, and the Park. While trotting around, stop Home to get some bones, but don’t get caught by the dog catcher or you’ll end up in the Pound! And don't get hurt while sniffing around the neighborhood or you'll have to go to the Vet. While wandering, detour into one of the alleys then try taking one of the Cats Crossing paths to the other alley. This allows you to run around the neighborhood even quicker, or to by-pass other dogs’ territories.
