Recently, Andrew Churcher (AKA Mod Noldor) was arrested for intimate relations with a 16 year old girl. Jagex confirmed these charges and refused further comment. Basically, since the release of RuneScape 2...RuneScape has went to hell in a handbasket:

I have seen both my children on this game as I keep watch on my kids when they are online. It looked family friendly and nice. One day, my 12 year old went to the restroom and I glanced over at the screen. RuneScape was on and he was logged in. I saw a disgusting and vulgar private message from a very messed up individual offering money in the game for "phone c3x" to my son, which is the way he put it.

I turned off the comp and dared my sons back on such garbage. I did some investigation by "Googling" this game. Children get addicted to this game like a horrible drug. There have even been suicides over these children losing items on the game.

Viruses spread on the game like wildfire in the disguise as "cheats". When said "cheats" are installed on the computer this allows the scammer to monitor your keystrokes, webcam if you have one, and everything. This is very dangerous for children that are unaware of these risks and possible identity theft.

There are vulgar advertisements at times on the free version of the game, and in game player names that are vulgar to be targeting such a young audience. Names with sex and drug terms are not uncommon to see, especially in the higher ranked players. The younger kids that play this game may be influenced by these "higher ranked players" with the constant bragging of use of drugs and sex. Real names I've encountered while researching about this game include names such as "Pussy Crunch", "Holdmyweed", and "Greenweed420".

Jagex Ltd. (a.k.a. Jagex Software), based in the United Kingdom, is a producer of Java-based online computer games. According to a developer, Jagex stands for Java Gaming Executables.

History of Jagex

Jagex Software was founded in November 1999 by Andrew Gower, Paul Gower, and Constant Tedder and became Jagex Ltd. in December 2001. The company was made in order to run their prime game, RuneScape, a MMORPG (massively multiplayer online role-playing game), which allowed you to fight monsters, train skills such as mining and fishing to become rich, solve quests, and many more abilities. At the time of the company formation, RuneScape had already been created and had over one million accounts created. The first tasks of the company were to create a version of the game with extra features that required a monthly fee, while still offering the free version, and to develop partnerships with advertisers. Both tasks were achieved, and the pay to play (or P2P) version of RuneScape was released on February 27, 2002, gaining 5000 subscriptions in the first week.

The operation of Jagex

Jagex has grown since the founding of the company. Jagex has two offices; one in Cambridge and one in London. Jagex currently has over 100 staff members who work on different aspects of RuneScape.

Beyond RuneScape

While almost all work by Jagex staff is now towards RuneScape, they still maintain a few other games that you can play online with other people. While nowhere near as popular as RuneScape, you can still find people to play with.

List of other Jagex games
