Jon Courtney is a singer and guitarist in the British rock band Pure Reason Revolution. He is also responsible for most of the song writing and lyrics, though some songs are attributed to former band-member Greg Jong. Before forming Pure Reason Revolution, Courtney was involved in its previous incarnations as Gel and The Sunset Sound, which included some of the same band members, most of whom met at the University of Westminster, though Courtney claims to have known Chloe Alper since they were fifteen.

He is also credited with the ability to write well for contrasting male and female lead vocals, and the harmonies that this produces. Lyrically, Courtney is very interested in dreams and often uses a "stream of consciousness" technique, though the words are often very hard to make out in the songs. He is also known to have an interest in the definition of genius, and to have written a university dissertation claiming that Beach Boys singer Brian Wilson is a genius.

Courtney is also responsible for much of the production of the band's music, using a style which is distinctive for its richness and texture, and for the near-perfect quality of sound and layering that he achieves. Though he uses much electronic input (and the anticipated follow-up album to The Dark Third is believed to be even more electronic), the majority of the sound comes from guitars, keyboards, strings and the harmonised vocals of Courtney and fellow singers Jamie Willcox and Chloe Alper.

Outside of Pure Reason Revolution, Courtney is involved in the DJ set All Bangers No Mash, with partner "Jack (Knock 'em Dead)," under the pseudonym "Cedo Simplex".
