A blend is the linguistic combination of two words. A "Portmanteau word" would require the two words to significantly overlap in their original form. i.e. the classic choice for Carroll - slithy, which is lithe and slimy. They overlap with three letters, which covers the center syllable so you cannot tell where one word begins or ends. Reaganomics is close to being a compound, except that it lacks the "eco" syllable of economics, and thus, is a blend. ] (]) 02:58, 21 March 2008 (UTC) |
