The Treaty of Nystad (Template:Lang-ru) was signed in 1721 in the then Swedish town of Nystad (which is called Uusikaupunki in Finnish). It ended the Great Northern War, in which Russia received the territories of Estonia, Livonia and Ingria, as well as much of Karelia and Tsar Peter I of Russia replaced King Frederick I of Sweden, as ruler of the conquered provinces. It marked the advent of Russia as a great power in Europe in place of Sweden. Russia returned the conquered territories of Finland and paid 2 million of silver thaler as a compensation to Sweden . The conflict with the other parties, Hannover, Kingdom of Prussia and Denmark, was concluded by the Stockholm treaties in 1719 and 1720.
