==Blocking ]==
] was on our user manipulaton list and we are glad you blocked him. Our IP spoofer is working really well. We can also tell you that we are not really spottedogsdotorg, since that person was proven by us to be Scott Brown, a mentally ill person in Pennsylvania who tried killed himself earlier this year and has been placed in a secure facility for the indefinite future. We had a bit of fun and tried to imitate him and see how many people we could get caught up in bans thinking they were Mr. Brown. We should add that Mr. Brown was brilliant in his attack stratergy of blaming someone else, especially someone he had issues with, and the work of this idiot savant seemed brilliant and if taken to the next level by someone with actual brains and technical know how it could be a way to destroy Misplaced Pages from within.

Our true target for banning is actually Bradley aka ]. We have posted his address and e-mail earlier and will again in the future. See, our goal is to get good Misplaced Pages editors to go away, so killing off ] just furthers our agenda of destruction from within. So it is nothing personal against Bradley, it is just that we are trying to thin the Misplaced Pages user pool one user at a time. Oh, we also have an admin account, but we aren't going to tell you who that is since that would be telling. That, of course, we use to get our info for our IP spoofer and other things which we shall not get into, such as the deleted mad ramblings of Mr. Brown. We are not stupid enough to use it to actually go and ban people, since that would be dirty pool. We shall tell you that you have made us very happy in banning one of our current character's accounts, for those of you in Rio Linda it is ]. (Yes, we just gave you a clue as to our real identity if you are collecting clues as to who we really are.) We want you to catch us and ban us, but the game of cat and mouse, pretending to be others, social engineering passwords, pissing off users is too fun. Of course we are using "we" since ] used it and we want you to think we are actually him or is it actually because there is more than one of us doing it? Which one is true? Both? One? Neither? Playing with your little minds is oh so fun and oh so easy. Plus TOR is a really brilliant thing. It is much easier than slogging about and finding open proxies, but that is not to say that we still do not use them. So yes, this was written from a TOR node, so go ahead and block it. Who knows, one of our alter egos may just go and do that. You do not know the half of our trail of destruction!

Good job on Wikisource interview

Hi! I just wanted to leave a quick note to say that I enjoyed the interview you did for The Signpost. I never really had a good idea of what Wikisource was about before. Now I do. So thanks!  :) —DragonHawk (talk|hist) 00:37, 3 April 2008 (UTC)

There are currently 14 articles that are still on hold in this process, awaiting revisions. Congratulations to Nehrams2020 (talk · contribs), who sweeped a whopping 51 articles during the month! Jackyd101 (talk · contribs) also deserves congrats for sweeping a total of 26 articles!

To delist or not to delist, that is the question

So you’ve found an article that, on the face of it, does not merit its good article status. What next? Especially where there are many glaring issues that need addressing, it’s tempting to just revoke its GA status and remove it from the list, but although we are encouraged as editors to be bold, this approach (known to some as "bold delisting") is not recommended good practice. There are many reasons why a listed article might not meet the assessment criteria—it’s always possible that it never did, and was passed in error, but more likely the criteria have changed or the article quality has degraded since its original assessment. Either way, we should treat its reassessment with no less tact and patience than we would a fresh nomination.

This, in fact, provides a good starting point for the delisting process. Approach the article as though it has been nominated for GA review. Read it and the GA criteria carefully, and provide a full reassessment on the article talk page. Explain where and why the article no longer meets the criteria, and suggest remedies.

Having explained why the article no longer meets current GA criteria, allow its editors time to fix it! In keeping with the above approach, it may help to treat the article as on hold. There is no need to tag it as such, but give editors a reasonable deadline, and consider helping out with the repair work. Bear in mind that more flexibility may be required than for a normal hold—the editors did not request or expect your reassessment and will probably have other projects taking up their time. They may not have worked on the article for months or even years, and at worst the article may have been abandoned and its authors no longer active. As always, communication is the key. It sometimes helps to post messages to relevant WikiProjects (found at the top of the article talk page), or to contact editors directly (this tool is useful for identifying active editors for any given article).

Only once the above process has run its course, and sufficient improvement has not been forthcoming, is it time to think about delisting the article. Communicate your final decision on the article talk page, even if there was no response to your reassessment and hold, and take the time to fill in the various edit summaries on the article talk and GA list pages to ensure the delisting is transparent and trackable. If you have any doubts about your final decision, you can list the article at Good article reassessment or contact one of the GA mentors, who will be happy to advise.

Article reassessment is perhaps the single most controversial function of our WikiProject, and the one with the most potential to upset and alienate editors. Yet it is one of the most necessary too, since without the ability to revoke an article’s status we would be unable to maintain quality within the project. However, if we approach reassessment sensitively and with the goal of improving articles to the point where sanctions are unnecessary, we will ensure that delisting is the last resort, not the first.

From the Editors

As we near the 4,000 Good Articles milestone, the project continues to grow and to gain respect in the Misplaced Pages community. Nevertheless, we continue to have a large backlog. If every member of WikiProject Good Articles would review just one article each day during the month of April, the backlog would be eliminated!

Please leave any comments or feedback regarding this issue here.

Barnstar

Thank you very much for the barnstar. This is very much appreciated! RFA Thanks

Thank you for your comments on my RFA. I haven't archived my talk page because I didn't want to split some of the RFA-related comments on it into two groups. I'll do so now. As for my signature.... I'm in the process of looking for a new suitable design. --Sharkface217 20:23, 13 April 2008 (UTC)

Misplaced Pages:Suspected sock puppets/Ctsai1

Thanks for your action on the above. It looks like he is using another IP now (User:68.173.46.204) but I don't have the energy right now to file a second report. Anything you can do in the absence of a formal report? Thanks. – ukexpat (talk) 14:52, 18 April 2008 (UTC)

Thank you for your prompt action. – ukexpat (talk) 15:54, 18 April 2008 (UTC)
FYI I ran a check as part of trying to close the AfD. I updated the report, you may want to review it. ++Lar: t/c 22:20, 19 April 2008 (UTC)

(copied from my talk per my policy) Did you also check on 68.173.46.204? It seems like this IP is used by Ctsai1/Monkey80/69.86.188.132. And I blocked Ctsai1 indef because he used 68.173.46.204 after I blocked all the other 3 from 1 month to indef. OhanaUnited 22:23, 19 April 2008 (UTC)

Please respond on my talk page. I usually don't watchlist someone's user talk page. OhanaUnited 22:24, 19 April 2008 (UTC)
I strongly prefer leaving convos in one place... you strongly prefer them not... I want to let you know I goofed, please check that page again, it doesn't say what it used to at all ! ( :( at me for goofing). As for the other IP you pointed out, I did check it. It's not technically correlated to either of the IDs, just as they are not correlated to each other. But the editing pattern supports assuming association... as with the others. Let's keep this convo here, I'll watchlist your page for a while. ++Lar: t/c 22:32, 19 April 2008 (UTC)
(as a side note, redirecting the talk to the user page makes things (1 click) harder for CUs, as it suppresses the list of handy links on the talk page which are very useful...) ++Lar: t/c 22:34, 19 April 2008 (UTC)
If a user knows how to proxy, then it's possible for each account editing under a different IP if he's determined. What should you suggest to do in this kind of situation where editing pattern suggests that they're the same user yet CU returns negative result? Unblock or tweak the block? OhanaUnited 00:06, 20 April 2008 (UTC)
If the pattern is strong, treat as a meatpuppet rather than a sock. This case, someone using different connections and machines would fit the observed stuff returned by CU, as would multiple people. I think the blocks probably are sound enough. You might offer to unblock the main account on a committment to not repeat the behaviour pattern. ++Lar: t/c 03:39, 20 April 2008 (UTC)

Green turtle

Hi, OhanaUnited,
Thanks for the vote and for the comment on my delisting nomination. I asked you a question there and I'd like to bring your attention to this question please because I really would like to get an answer. Thanks.--Mbz1 (talk) 16:39, 21 April 2008 (UTC)

  • Because you've never responded my question let me please assume that you yourself do not know what you were talking about. May I please also mention that IMO Misplaced Pages is not a place for the ungrounded accusations? Thanks.--Mbz1 (talk) 02:12, 22 April 2008 (UTC)
  • Thank you for the response. I do not think you understood me right. They all are mine pictures and I wish they all were featured. They all are different and IMO they all are interesting in their own way. I just did not want to nominate the second image to get an FP status because I was afraid that it would get opposed because we already have one FP of a green turtle.--Mbz1 (talk) 02:23, 22 April 2008 (UTC)
  • Commons, yes, but what about English Misplaced Pages? I bet, if I am to nominate one of my recent images on English Misplaced Pages, it would probably get opposed because one turtle is already featured. I believe you saw it yourself. Few people voted to keep an old image, but none, but you, said why not to have a second one featured too.Thank you.--Mbz1 (talk) 02:30, 22 April 2008 (UTC)

A BIG THANK YOU

THANK YOU for giving me a barnstar. You are too kind... --Jackl 08:06, 22 April 2008 (UTC)

Adopting and voting

The adopting seems like a good idea. Also I am not sure if I should vote on the deletions that Bolly Nickers mentioned. They do seem like a bit encyclopedic and seem to violate WP:Not, but would the vote be tainted? I also think that some of the people who voted for keeping the article are doing so because they are train enthusiasts and have a vested interest. Wouldn't it be better if someone like myself who is fairly neutral vote on it? It does seem like a bit of a quandary! --Plate King (talk) 15:42, 22 April 2008 (UTC)

Orphaned non-free media (Image:StudentOctopusCard.jpg)

Thanks for uploading Image:StudentOctopusCard.jpg. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Misplaced Pages under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Misplaced Pages. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Misplaced Pages (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Misplaced Pages page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BJBot (talk) 00:33, 23 April 2008 (UTC)

Signpost

Hi. I saw that Tale of a Tub was finally de-listed this week, but noticed that the usual signpost template points to archive1, or the first FAR - which was a Keep. It was the more recent archive, archive2, which de-listed the article. I corrected the link, but it's your article - please doublecheck me and let me know if I erred. Thanks for contributing to the signpost - of all of the articles, this column is the one I read every week without fail. Again, thanks. UltraExactZZ ~ Evidence 17:55, 25 April 2008 (UTC)

No problem at all. I'm sure we could add a parameter to the template (maybe something like {{ffr|article|2}} or some such, to force it to increment the archive number - but, really, how often is an article kept and later de-listed? Not often, I imagine. Best, UltraExactZZ ~ Evidence 19:28, 25 April 2008 (UTC)
Anything's possible, I guess. If it goes back to FAC, I'll let you know. ^_^ Best, UltraExactZZ ~ Evidence 19:46, 25 April 2008 (UTC)

GA sweeps update

I've updated the newsletter template for the may newsletter. Could you update the GA sweeps figures for April? Thanks! Dr. Cash (talk) 17:24, 28 April 2008 (UTC)

A slight favor

I would appreciate it if you would stop making offhand comments at my expense at RfA. Thanks. Wisdom89 (T / ) 17:34, 28 April 2008 (UTC)

Re: The WikiProject Hawaii Newsletter

<deleted> My goodness, I'm so sorry! I meant to send this to another user...that's what happens if you stay up late :) Singularity 22:12, 28 April 2008 (UTC)

I apologize about the misunderstanding on behalf of WikiProject Hawaii. I don't know how that happened, because you're not in our WikiProject. Anyway, I assure you that it won't happen again. Should it happen again, please notify me and I will take care of the situation. Again, we are very sorry for the misunderstanding. Thank you for being so understanding! – Obento Musubi (CGS) 07:53, 29 April 2008 (UTC)

Lady Aleena's RfA

OhanaUnited...Thank you for participating in my nomination for adminship. Your comments have shown me those areas in which I need improve my understanding. I hope that my future endevors on Misplaced Pages will lead to an even greater understanding of it. If you wish to further discuss the nomination, please use its talk page. Ohana, the nexon wiki page needs your help!

Some user is adding useless "singapore" information at http://en.wikipedia.org/Nexon_Corporation. This user has posted useless information including "Singapore's first maplestory player first played with Japan and Korea server as a primary school kid. Later on, even with little or no language barrier, he left to join maple global, as it is easier for Singaporeans (his friends) to register. As an ex-OBTG "forumer", he has played almost all the games available.". Please defend this article from vandalism! I have temporary removed this vandalsm, but it will need more reinforcement. Please help! —Preceding unsigned comment added by 76.27.61.166 (talk) 20:31, 30 April 2008 (UTC)

Also, this page http://en.wikipedia.org/List_of_NEXON_Games has been vandalised. Please read the "nexon asia" portion of the article. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 76.27.61.166 (talk) 20:33, 30 April 2008 (UTC)

I wanted to ask you a follow-up quesion about the comment you left on this article. Each paragraph at least has a citation and most of the citations point to the same 2 or 3 references. I used those same 3 or 4 references as sources for the article (or at least the portions I did). Are you saying you want me to sprinkle the article with the same references so that more facts have inline citations or that I need to find more references?--Kumioko (talk) 22:28, 2 May 2008 (UTC)

GAN Reviewer of the Month

Noble Story (talk · contribs) is the GAN Reviewer of the Month for April, based on the assessments made by Dr. Cash on the number and thoroughness of the reviews made by individual reviewers each week. Noble Story joined Misplaced Pages on May 16, 2007. He is a big fan of the Houston Rockets, and edits many related articles, as well as articles on basketball in general. Congratulations to Noble Story (talk · contribs) on being April's GAN Reviewer of the Month!

GA Topic

Do you know what a GA topic is? If you are not nodding your head, or don't know what I'm talking about, then you should pay attention to this article.

There are ten GA top-level topics (but you will spot the eleventh as this article goes along). These topics are: Arts, Language and literature, Philosophy and religion, Everyday life, Social sciences and society, Geography and places, History, Engineering and technology, Mathematics, and Natural sciences. Each of these topics are further narrowed down to more specific topics. For example, Arts can be narrowed down to Art and architecture, Music, and Theatre, film and drama. But let's not get into sub-topics in this article because of its depth.

Now you will probably ask, "I already knew this, so what is your point?" What I want to illustrate is that some people often forget a step when they promote an article to GA. After they have posted their review in the article talk page, added the article name to the corresponding topic in the good article page, increased the GA count by 1, and added the {{GA}} to article talk page, many reviewers tend to forget to add the topic parameter in {{GA}} or {{ArticleHistory}}. You can browse the topic parameter abbreviations at on this page as well as what each top-level GA topic means, because sometimes it can be chaotic and confusing to pick a topic. For example, should On the Origin of Species be placed under the Natural Science topic (because it's related to evolution), or under the Language and Literature topic (because it is a book)? The correct answer is to place it under Language and literature topic, because its categorization as a proper title supercedes other categories.

Let's go back to the page that shows GA topics; does anyone spot the eleventh topic? Yes, Category:Good articles without topic parameter is the 11th topic, only it shouldn't be there. Articles that do not have a topic parameter in either {{GA}} or {{ArticleHistory}} will be placed in this category. The topic "Uncategorized" is not very informative, is it? So if you have time, you can consider cleaning up the articles that are left in this category and move them to the appropriate category by adding a topic parameter.

That's it for this month, I hope you learned a little from it.

GA Sweeps Update

The GA Sweeps process is progressing nicely! During the month of April, a total of 26 articles were reviewed. Of that total, 15 were found to continue to meet the GA criteria, and two were delisted. There are currently six articles that are still on hold in this process, awaiting revisions. One article was exempted from review because it was promoted to FA. Two articles were exempted from review because they were already delisted by another member in the community.

We are once again recruiting new sweeps participants. Candidates should be very strong and comfortable in reviewing GA and familiar with the GA processes and criteria. If you are interested, please contact OhanaUnited for details.

Did You Know...
  • ...that there are slightly less than twice as many Good Articles as Featured Articles?
  • ...that the total number of Good Articles and Featured Articles combined is 6,085?
  • ...that different languages have different symbols representing GA? (Alemannic uses , Bavarian uses , Czech and French use , Estonian, Icelandic, and Swedish use , Esperanto and German use , Polish, Spanish, and Turkish use , Portuguese uses , Russian uses , Ukrainian uses )

Note: Lithuanian and Serbian have their own symbol but only uploaded locally. Other languages not listed above either have the same symbol as english or they don't have GA process.

From the Editors

There is currently a debate on adding a small green dot to the top right corner of all Good Articles that pass the criteria, similar to the small bronze star that is added to the top right corner of Featured Articles. Members of WikiProject Good Articles are encouraged to participate in the debate on this page.

Please leave any comments or feedback regarding this issue here.

Fetured portal

I found your words interesting:

GA have gone a long way and the bar raised over the years. Originally, if anyone thinks it's good, it's GA. Now there is a criteria that can be measured against.

Yet at featured portal the criteria are trumped by anyone who thinks "it's good" or bad. Surely you recoginse this disconnect. -- Secisek (talk) 00:23, 3 May 2008 (UTC)

New Project

Myself and several other editors have been compiling a list of very active editors who would likely be available to help new editors in the event they have questions or concerns. As the list grew and the table became more detailed, it was determined that the best way to complete the table was to ask each potential candidate to fill in their own information, if they so desire. This list is sorted geographically in order to provide a better estimate as to whether the listed editor is likely to be active.

If you consider yourself a very active Wikipedian who is willing to help newcomers, please either complete your information in the table or add your entry. If you do not want to be on the list, either remove your name or just disregard this message and your entry will be removed within 48 hours. The table can be found at User:Useight/Highly Active, as it has yet to have been moved into the Misplaced Pages namespace. Thank you for your help. Useight (talk) 05:55, 3 May 2008 (UTC)

Reverting closing

I'm really quite surprised that you reverted the starting of my process of closing debate at GA. I don't expect that anything would change in the next few days and the meta-debates going on seem counter-productive. There are no hard and fast rules about when a debate should close. As I just spent the last two hours writing an opinion and I'm way past my bedtime, I'm not going to do anything for another day. If I see no positive discussion happening when I return, I am going to close. I hope this will be alright with you. Goodnight. -- SamuelWantman 09:09, 4 May 2008 (UTC)

I was also a bit surprised by this revert. Such a reversion should only be done if there is a clear benefit; I don't see such a benefit here. I do sympathise that you got a bit caught up in the unfortunate "Shut down?" thread, but that is an example of the kind of meta-debate that takes us away from finding consensus and into the territory of arguing about it. Geometry guy 14:57, 4 May 2008 (UTC)
Anyone sitting on the fence will probably not have anything to say that would change the outcome. I never count !votes, and only consider the strength of arguments. I'll close when I have a chance. -- SamuelWantman 02:32, 5 May 2008 (UTC)

American non-acceptance of the rule of the shorter term

Thank you for your comment at m:American non-acceptance of the rule of the shorter term. As I do not yet use Wikispecies, I have never intended to leave that out of my prepared petition. As the current live petition is not popular enough, I have added Wikispecies to my proposed shortened petition and I hope to open it to signatories around 1 June 2008. Your comment is important to improve my proposed shortened petition before opening, so thank you again.--Jusjih (talk) 01:22, 5 May 2008 (UTC)

Environmental Record Project

Hey Cyrus, my environmental record section I made on the John McCain page was moved to the environmental issues section in the political policy subheading. I responded to the user suggesting the page have an environmental record section all its own. I haven't heard back yet but I wanted to hear your thoughts on what I should do. Thanks, wbecker9 —Preceding unsigned comment added by Wbecker9 (talkcontribs) 16:01, 6 May 2008 (UTC)

GA sweeps

I'd like to offer to help with the GA sweeps.

I won't be at all offended though if for whatever reason I'm not considered suitable. :-) --Malleus Fatuorum (talk) 19:44, 7 May 2008 (UTC)

Good Article Sweeps

I'd like to offer my assistance in the GA sweeps. Most of my GA reviewing experience has come in the form of Television episodes, but I'm pretty familiar with the entire process. If you'd like me to help, I can always be reached at my talk page. Mastrchf (/c) 22:32, 7 May 2008 (UTC)

Ah, well I might not be what you're looking for. As I said earlier, all of my work has come in the form of reviewing television episodes, and the five that I've reviewed, I've eventually passed. I guess that I've just been lucky in reviewing episodes that all had relatively good work prior to nom, and the nominator quickly introduced my suggestions to the article. So, I can't give you any true articles that I've failed. I completely understand if this, for lack of a better word disqualifies me from the procedure, but if you'd still like my help, particularly in the category of television episodes (which at last count looks to be around 136 articles), some of my reviews have been The Economist (Lost) and Pilot (30 Rock). Re:Natures Pics

Hi OhanaUnited,
Sorry but can't recall of the top of my head an don't have time to chase it up at the moment - it would have been in galleries before 2006 judging by my upload date. Good luck with it, --Fir0002 07:27, 8 May 2008 (UTC)

Re: GA Sweeps

Hey. One failed article that I reviewed was Westminster Christian Academy (Missouri). The review is still available on the talk page. One passed article that I reviewed was Arlington Senior High School. The review is archived via the article history header. will381796 (talk) 12:24, 8 May 2008 (UTC)

Misplaced Pages:WikiProject Environment

I compled your challance at ]!!! I added Al Gore to

Food Portal

I am a college instructor, I am in the middle of administering finals and compiling grades for my classes, this semester has been hectic as well with a number of issues as-well-as myself working on my thesis so I haven't had time to update the portal monthly which is why I changed to the monthly random portal generator. I should have some time this weekend to update the news and DYK items however and maybe add some new articles to the random portal generator pages.--Chef Tanner (talk) 02:27, 9 May 2008 (UTC)

Blocking User:Plate King

User:Plate King was on our user manipulaton list and we are glad you blocked him.

Our true target for banning is actually Bradley aka User:Qqqqqq. We have posted his address and e-mail earlier and will again in the future. See, our goal is to get good Misplaced Pages editors to go away, so killing off User:Plate King just furthers our agenda of destruction from within. We shall tell you that you have made us very happy in banning one of our current character's accounts, for those of you in Rio Linda it is User:Libro0. (Yes, we just gave you a clue as to our real identity if you are collecting clues as to who we really are.) We want you to catch us and ban us, but the game of cat and mouse, pretending to be others, social engineering passwords, pissing off users is too fun. Of course we are using "we" since User:Plate King used it and we want you to think we are actually him or is it actually because there is more than one of us doing it? Which one is true? Both? One? Neither? Playing with your little minds is oh so fun and oh so easy. Plus TOR is a really brilliant thing. It is much easier than slogging about and finding open proxies, but that is not to say that we still do not use them. So yes, this was written from a TOR node, so go ahead and block it. Who knows, one of our alter egos may just go and do that. You do not know the half of our trail of destruction!
