Bon Jovi's third and most commercially successful album Slippery When Wet was released in August of 1986 (see 1986 in music). It sold over twelve million copies in the U.S. and spawned two #1 singles, "You Give Love a Bad Name" and "Livin' On a Prayer". Slippery When Wet hit #1 on the Billboard Top 200.
Jon Bon Jovi initially didn't want to include "Livin' on a Prayer" on the album, as he didn't think it was a good song. Ironically, it became one of the band's most popular and well-known songs. The song is referred to in Bon Jovi's 2000 single It's My Life
The title of this album was named after certain signs bearing the same name on the Sea-to-Sky Highway near Whistler, BC Canada. Jon Bon Jovi had taken a liking to the phrase after spotting it that year on vacation in Whistler.
