The Majin Boo Saga (also known as the Majin Buu Saga) is the final saga in Dragon Ball Z. It follows the Z-Fighters' battle against Majin Boo, an entity created by a fictional sorcerer named Bibidi. The saga spans from volumes 36 to 42 of the original Dragon Ball manga, volumes 20 to 26 of the English Dragon Ball Z manga and episodes 195-291 of the Dragon Ball Z anime. It originally aired from 1993 to 1996.
In the English dub of the anime, the Boo Saga is divided into six sub-sagas; the Great Saiyaman Saga, the World Tournament Saga, the Babidi Saga, the Majin Boo Saga, the Fusion Saga and the Kid Boo Saga.
Plot
Seven years after the events of the Cell Games, a still-deceased Son Goku is summoned with the top student of the West Kaio, Paikuhan, to solve a disturbance in Hell, where Freeza, his father King Cold, Cell and the Ginyu Special Corps are terrorizing the guards to tell them the way out. While Paikuhan takes care of a Hell guard who had almost been tossed into some spikes by Cell, Goku takes on the Ginyu Special Corps and easily dispatches of them. However, when Cell heads straight for Goku, Paikuhan intervenes, taking him out with ease, and also Freeza and King Cold.
After peace in the Afterlife is returned, the East, West, and South Kaios decide to hold an Afterlife Tenkaichi Budokai in honor of North Kaio's death, which is opened to all the deceased fighters of the galaxy. Excited, Goku immediately participates. During the Budōkai, Goku & Paikuhan defeat their opponents, but then face each other in the final. At first, both seem equal in strength, but when Paikuhan prompts Goku to reveal his true power, Goku transforms into a Super Saiyan and Paikuhan removes his weighted clothing to increase his speed. As the battle gets more intense, Paikuhan gains the upper hand, taking down Goku with his powerful techniques. But at the last moment, when Paikuhan decides to use his Thunder Flash technique for the third time, Goku utilizes his Instantaneous Movement and counters with his Kamehameha blast, sending Paikuhan out of the arena, seemingly giving Goku a victory until Dai Kaio disqualifies them both because they touched the ceiling, which is not allowed, thus ending the match in a draw. However, for giving him such a great match, he agrees to train them both in 100 years. However, Goku refuses the proposal, saying that 100 years is far too long.
Meanwhile, on Earth, Son Gohan is a 17-year-old teenager and spends his days studying at Orange Star High School, trying not to reveal his hidden powers, as that would attract unwanted attention to himself. On his first day to high school, he witnesses a bank robbery. To hide his identity, he transforms into a Super Saiyan and takes out the robbers, becoming the talk of the city, with the nickname "Gold-Hair Fighter". Videl, Mr. Satan's daughter and classmate of Gohan's, who generally fights trouble in the city and gets assistance from the police as well, is suspicious that Gohan may be the "Gold-Hair Fighter". Afraid of being caught out, Gohan asks Bulma to make him a costume that will conceal his identity while fighting. He becomes the Great Saiyaman, a hero of justice, but Videl is suspicious of the new superhero, and later finds out his secret, keeping it a secret in exchange for flying lessons and on the condition that Gohan enters in the 25th Tenkaichi Budokai. Gohan then returns home and tells his mother Chi-Chi about the Budōkai. At first, she is reluctant to let him participate, but when he tells her of the 10 million zenie prize money, she happily obliges, saying that the money will be used for his scolarship.
From then on, Gohan takes his seven-year-old brother Son Goten under his wing to train him for the upcoming Budōkai, and is shocked when he discovers that he has the ability to transform into a Super Saiyan. Gohan asks if Chi-Chi knew about him becoming a Super Saiyan, which she did during her sparring with Goten, who replies that she called him a monster. After that, Goten & Gohan spar. Meanwhile, Vegeta and his eight-year-old son, Trunks, are also training for the Budōkai at 450x gravity, with Vegeta's new goal consisting in making Trunks stronger than Gohan and Goten, since he believes it was Goku who trained Gohan into a Super Saiyan 2 before the Cell Games. Vegeta is able to overcome the great amount of gravity as a Super Saiyan, however, Trunks is struggling. It is then that he transforms into Super Saiyan, surprising Vegeta, who jokes about a "Super Saiyan Bargain Sale" and asks if Goten can also transform into a Super Saiyajin, which Trunks confirms. Vegeta tells Trunks to come at him, without holding back, even though Trunks says that he can't stand up to his dad. After Trunks punches him in the face, Vegeta hits him back, and, to stop him crying, he promises to take Trunks to the amusement park. Before they go, Vegeta makes Trunks promise to train harder than Goten, so he can become stronger than him. In the Afterlife, Goku is told of the Budōkai back on Earth and, with the promise of being granted the permission to stay one day in the living world to participate in it, begins training with North Kaio to get stronger. Before the Z-Fighters' arrival at the Budokai, Gohan warns that no-one transform into a Super Saiyan, as that will attract attention to the fact that they participated in the Cell Games seven years ago.
At the Budōkai, Goten and Trunks enter the junior division, easily knock out their opponents and make their way up the ladder to the final, where the two face each other in the final match. Goten and Trunks both display astounding powers in an equally matched fight until Trunks eventually manages to beat Goten in a ring-out, despite his cheating by transforming into a Super Saiyan, even when Gohan warned them not to. In order to enter the adult division, however, the boys have to resort to disguising themselves as the Mighty Mask. After the Z-Fighters tuck into a great banquet (in which Goku, Gohan & Vegeta eat the most food), the adult division begins and the Z-Fighters easily make it to the main Budōkai matches which are as follows:
1. Kuririn vs. Pintar
2. Piccolo (under the alias " Ma Junior") vs. "Mr Shin"
3. Videl vs. Spopovich
4. Gohan vs. Kibito
5. Mr. Satan vs. No. 18
6. Goku vs. Vegeta
7. Mighty Mask vs. Killah
8. Jewel vs. Yamu
Kuririn easily manages to defeat Pintar and proceeds to the next round. The next match is between Piccolo and "Mr. Shin". Sensing Shin's strange energy, seemingly terrified, Piccolo forfeits the match, to everyone's surprise. When Goku and the others ask him why he withdrew, he replies thattheir levels were too different. Next, Videl is matched against the muscle-bound Spopovich, who had previously lost against Mr. Satan in the first round of the last Budōkai. Videl uses excessive force during her match against Spopovich and breaks his neck, however, Spopovich continues the battle as if nothing even happened. As the match continues, everyone wonders how Spopovich improved his strength so much since the 24th Tenkaichi Budōkai, but Spopovich doesn't reply and brutally beats Videl to near death. However, after being slung into the air like a rag-doll, had her back broken and then her face repeatedly punched, Videl still doesn't give up, even when Gohan pleads her to. Videl attacks Spopovich again, but Spopovich counters and beats her around as if she was a punching bag. When his friend Yamu tells him to stop playing games, Spopovich kicks her out of the ring at his request. After rushing Videl to hospital and giving her a Senzu bean Goku got from Yajirobe, Gohan steps in the ring against Kibito. In all the excitement, Gohan forgets to wear his helmet and his students are shocked to find out that he is the Great Saiyaman. Kibito tells Gohan to go Super Saiyan and reveal his true powers. At first, Gohan refuses, wondering how he knows about him being able to become a Super Saiyan. But when Piccolo persuades him to, Gohan obliges and transforms, surprising everyone while his fellow students realize that he is not only the Great Saiyaman, but the Golden Fighter as well. When Kibito compliments him on his great power, Gohan says that he can take the transformation one step further and shocks the audience even more by transforming into a Super Saiyan 2. Upon doing this, Spopovich and Yamu notice the great deal of energy Gohan is spouting and assault him, draining his energy through a bottle and then flying off. Mr. Shin then reveals himself as the East Kaioshin, or "the lord of lords", as Piccolo had suspected (although he is now the only Kaioshin due to the deaths of all the others) and informs them of the evil wizard Babidi's plan to resurrect the monstrous djinn Majin Boo. Spopovich & Yamu were two of his minions and in order to restore Boo at full power they must collect large amounts of energy, and that Gohan's Super Saiyan energy was the perfect source. East Kaioshin and his assistant Kibito had traveled from the Planet of the Kai's to Earth to stop Boo's resurrection and they had let Spopovich & Yamu take Gohan's energy only so that they would lead them to Babidi's ship. While Videl & Kibito stay behind so that Kibito can heal Gohan, Goku, Vegeta, Piccolo, Kuririn & East Kaioshin fly off after Spopovich and Yamu. After Gohan is healed, he, Kibito & Videl fly off to catch up with the others.
While flying off to catch up with the other Z-Fighters, Videl is unable to keep up with Gohan and Kibito's speed. Before turning back, she asks Gohan if he was the one who killed Cell seven years ago. Reluctantly, Gohan tells her the truth. After she wishes Gohan good luck fighting Babidi, she vows to ask him out if he comes back alive. Eventually, East Kaioshin notices Spopovich and Yamu near Babidi's spaceship with another one of Babidi's minions, Pui Pui, and tells everyone to suppress their ki while they hide behind some mountains and secretly watch them. Babidi finally comes out of his spaceship, followed by his right-hand man Dabura, king of the demon world and feared among all. After Spopovich and Yamu give Babidi the bottle with the energy inside, Babidi kills Spopovich by blowing him up and when Yamu begins to run away, he is also killed when he is disintegrated by Pui Pui's energy blast. Dabura then senses the ki of the hidden Z-Fighters, and notices that three of them (Goku, Gohan and Vegeta) have great potential. Babidi tells Dabura to "kill the riffraff", but not kill East Kaioshin so that he can lure them to him and then return to the ship, while Pui Pui is chosen to handle "Stage One". Dabura goes in to attack and first kills Kibito by blasting him at point-blank range, and then spits on Kuririn & Piccolo, causing them to turn into stone. He then retreats back to the spaceship. Goku asks how they can get Kuririn & Piccolo to turn back to normal, and East Kaioshin replies that for them to return to normal, Dabura will have to die. Falling for Babidi's trap, Goku, Gohan & Vegeta follow Dabura to avenge their friends and enter the spaceship. East Kaioshin, angry at their foolishness, has no choice but to follow them.
Once there, Pui Pui arrives to face the Z-Fighters and explains that Babidi is at the bottom of the spaceship, and that to get to him, they must complete three stages and defeat each opponent on each stage. Currently, they are on Stage One, and Pui Pui is their opponent. After Vegeta wins a game of "Rock-Paper-Scissors", Pui Pui goes in to attack him, but Vegeta proves to be much stronger than him and easily pounds him. When Babidi realizes that his minion is losing, he teleports him to his home planet, Planet Zoon (since the planet has a gravity of ten times the level on Earth), to give him the advantage. However, Vegeta, having trained at 450x gravity the other day, kills Pui Pui effortlessly, much to the dismay of East Kaioshin who hadn't expected the three Saiyans to be so powerful. This allows them to lower themselves down to the next level of the ship, Stage Two, where it is Goku's turn to fight. The fighter of Stage Two is a magical green beast named Yakon. Although he may be big, he boasts tremendous speed, which is shown when he surprises Goku by slashing against his gi. Wanting to end the battle more quickly, Babidi teleports the arena again to the Dark Planet, Yakon's home planet, where it is completely dark and no-one (apart from Yakon) can see a thing. Yakon rushes in to take down Goku with his extendable claws, but Goku, although not being able to see, dodges his attacks and smashes Yakon to the ground, revealing that he can detect Yakon's movement by feeling the flow of the tiny air currents. And then Goku discovers another way to see - and transforms into a Super Saiyan. At the bottom of the spaceship, Babidi is amazed at Goku's transformation and demands to one of his servants that he is given the biggest energy meter there is. Babidi reads out Goku's kiri (energy for Majin Boo) as 3000 kiri and moans that Yakon can never win, as he tops out at 800 kiri. But Yakon suddenly turns Goku back to normal form and reveals that he eats light energy, like Goku's Super Saiyan energy. Goku thinks of a way he can defeat him, and, surprising East Kaioshin, turns into a Super Saiyan again. Yakon sucks in the light energy, while Babidi shouts that Goku has got to be hurt and that Yakon must save some energy for Majin Boo. As Yakon takes in more of Goku's energy, Goku transforms into a Super Saiyan 2, slightly shocking Vegeta, and generates more energy than Yakon can handle, causing him to explode and allowing the Z-Fighters to proceed to the next stage. Babidi is amazed how strong their opponents are, so, to lay the warlock's worries to rest, Dabura travels to Stage Three himself. When Dabura demands that all of them come at him at once, he is enraged when Gohan underestimates him and takes up the challenge alone.
Meanwhile, at the Budōkai, over half the fighters are disqualified. Knowing that a competition with only five contestants is boring, Mr. Satan suggests a battle royale, where all the remaining contestants, Mr. Satan, #18, Mighty Mask, Killa and Jewel, get into the ring at once and fight each other. When Killa suggests taking out Mr. Satan first, Trunks and Goten, underneath the costume of the Mighty Mask, tells him that #18 is the one they should watch out for, leaving Killa wondering if he heard two voices. Killa and Jewel are instantly taken out by #18 and the Mighty Mask, but the main struggle is between #18 and Mighty Mask. Hercule onlooks the battle, astounded by the fighters' techniques. At a disadvantage of not being able to move comfortably, the young boys turn into Super Saiyajin, thinking that they wouldn't be discovered under the costume. However, #18 figures out who the masked marauder is from their transformation and slices their costume in half with a Kienzan, exposing Goten and Trunks, who fly off after both being disqualified. This leaves a scared Mr. Satan against #18, who manages to trap him in a headlock. #18 proposes to the world champion that if he wants to win and not lose his reputation, he will have to give her 20 million zenie (double the Budōkai prize money). Mr. Satan agrees and pretends to knock her out of the ring with his ridiculously named the "Satan Miracle Very Wonderful Bara Bara Punch". Meanwhile, Goten and Trunks meet up with Videl, who tells them about where the others have gone. Not wanting to miss an opportunity to see Majin Boo, Goten and Trunks go Super Saiyajin and swiftly fly off after the large cluster of chi.
Back on Babidi's spaceship, on Stage Three, Gohan is locked in combat with Dabura at a mountainous range and although he is a little rusty with his fighting skills, when he transforms into a Super Saiyan, he is roughly equal in strength with Dabura. While Gohan continues to battle Dabura, Vegeta becomes frustrated with Gohan's inability to destroy Dabura and complains that Gohan isn't as strong as he used to be when he was a kid and that he has to make an effort to kill Dabura. Noticing this, Dabura requests that Babidi teleport them back to the ship, as he has made an interesting discovery. When Babidi observes that Vegeta does not have a pure heart, he releases the evil within him and quite easily turns him into a ruthless Majin warrior, releasing his latent powers. Babidi transports the Z-Fighters, including Vegeta, to the Budōkai arena where there is still a celebration over Mr. Satan's apparent victory of the Budōkai. Cowering in fright, Mr. Satan recognizes them as the fighters who had participated in the Cell Games seven years ago. Vegeta then destroys portions of the stadium, killing many people in the process, in order to convince Goku to fight him. After turning into a Super Saiyan, Goku shouts in rage to Babidi that he should teleport them to a desert plane, and although the Kaioshin objects to their fight and steps in the way of the two Saiyans, he is forced to back down when Goku threatens to kill him. Responding to Goku's request, Babidi teleports them to a desert plane, where the two Saiyans begin their fight. In horror, Goku realises that Vegeta allowed Babidi to take control of him. Vegeta says that in order to beat Goku, he had to become evil again. He hated that, through Goku and his friends' influence and forming a family, he had become softer and less aggressive. He wanted to become the ruthless and cold-blooded Saiyan that he was once before, so he could fight Goku all-out, without caring for anyone else. He also reveals that he hadn't completely succumbed to Babidi's control, as he didn't kill East Kaioshin when the wizard told him too, and that he noticed that when the Kaioshin explained about Babidi's influence on Spopovitch & Yamu, and about how much their strength had increased due to his magic, he thought that he would get stronger too, despite the measures that he had to go to. The two rival Saiyans then power up to Super Saiyan 2 and they engage in battle. Meanwhile, Gohan and East Kaioshin go all the way down to Boo's shell, where Babidi & Dabura are. Not wanting them to destroy the spaceship and awaken Boo at half-power, Babidi transports them all to a desert plane. Babidi is soon afterwards alerted that Majin Boo is at full power and is ready to wake. While Goku and Vegeta realise how much each other's strength has increased through immense amounts of training, Gohan realises that Goku & Vegeta are fighting with power levels beyond the Super Saiyan limits, so the damage dealt is greater. With terror in their eyes, Gohan & East Kaioshin watch as the spell-casted shell Majin Boo is encased in starts billowing with smoke.
Realising what Goku said about releasing his inner power, Gohan charges up to full power and blasts Majin Boo's shell with a Kamehameha, seemingly destroying him. However, the smoke that comes out the shell shapes itself into Majin Boo, who despite acting child-like, is just what East Kaioshin remembers. Dabura, believing Boo to be weak, attacks the monster, but is easily tossed away by Boo. Gohan attempts to escape with East Kaioshin, but Boo proves to be much faster and stops them. He easily crushes East Kaioshin with his might, then defeats Gohan with a powerful energy blast, but East Kaioshin prevents the blast from finishing off Gohan. Meanwhile, Goku and Vegeta sense Boo's presence, and Goku decides to end their battle so they can face Boo. Vegeta tells Goku to get out one of his Senzu Beans. However, Vegeta tricks Goku and knocks him unconscious, wanting to face Boo alone without Goku's interference. Back at the battlefield, Dabura attempts to convince Babidi that Boo is too dangerous for him to control, but the wizard betrays his loyal servant, and orders Boo to kill him. Boo does this by transforming Dabura into a cookie (one of his unusual powers) and gobbles him up. With Dabura dead, Kuririn and Piccolo are turned back to normal and they meet up with Goten and Trunks. Vegeta then arrives and destroys Babidi's spaceship, much to the anger of the warlock. Vegeta and Boo then fight and seem to be equal at first, but Vegeta eventually wears out, while Boo remains unharmed. Goten and Trunks then charge in and knock Boo away from Vegeta, while Piccolo slices Babidi in half. After a heartful farewell to Trunks, Vegeta knocks Goten and Trunks unconscious. Vegeta asks Piccolo if he will meet Goku in the Afterlife, but Piccolo replies that instead of going to the Afterlife, he will be condemned to hell because of the evil and prideful intentions he had brought upon himself to become a Majin. Showing no emotion, he orders Piccolo, unaware of what Vegeta is intending to do, to escape with the boys. Piccolo tells Kuririn to fly off after him, and Kuririn asks Piccolo if he knows what Vegeta is going to do. Piccolo says that, for once in his life, Vegeta cares about someone other than himself. As Boo recovers, Vegeta unleashes all of his energy into an explosion of energy, enveloping both of them in a blinding flash of light which destroys both Boo and himself.
However, Boo is able to regenerate and after restoring a barely alive Babidi, they go on a rampage of Earth in search of Goten, Trunks and Piccolo. Goku later awakens from Vegeta knocking him out and begins training Goten and Trunks to learn the art of Fusion, so that they can combine into one separate being with immense power and defeat Boo. Meanwhile, East Kaioshin and the resurrected Kibito find Gohan, who is still barely alive. They then heal him and teleport him with them to the Planet of the Kaios, where they have him train with the legendary Z-Sword to defeat Boo. Back on Earth, Babidi locates Trunks' home at Capsule Corp. in West City, warns him that if he doesn't come out, his city will be destroyed and flies over with Boo to find him. Knowing that the Dragon Radar is there, Goku sends Trunks to retrieve it, while he himself teleports to where Boo is, to distract him long enough for Trunks to find the radar. After showing Boo his regular form, his Super Saiyan form and Super Saiyan 2 form, Goku powers up even higher and transforms into a Super Saiyan 3. Goku and Boo then fight, and Goku is having the upper hand. However, after Trunks locates the Dragon Radar and returns to the Lookout, Goku tells Majin Boo that he's far too gifted to be controlled by a coward like Babidi, ends the fight and uses his Instantaneous Movement to teleport away. Babidi then begins to insult Boo, but angers the monster, and Boo then kills Babidi by strangling him, then punching his head off, leaving him untamed to rampage the planet. However, Majin Boo shows some goodness in his heart when he cures a boy's blindness and gives him milk too. At the Lookout, Baba reveals to Goku that his use of Super Saiyan 3 depleted his one day on Earth to half an hour and he is forced to return to the Afterlife early, though he has Piccolo continue the boys' Fusion training.
Back in the Afterlife, Goku learns from Lord Enma that Gohan is alive and teleports to the Planet of the Kaios to watch his son's training with the legendary Z-Sword. However, after practicing with a heavy metal called Klangite, the Z-Sword breaks in two, though in the process Dai Kaioshin is released from inside. Dai Kaioshin explains that he was the East Kaioshin from 15 generations ago, and that he was sealed inside the Z-Sword by a person as evil as Majin Boo. After an agreement that Goku will get Dai Kaioshin a date with Bulma, Dai Kaioshin then puts Gohan through a long and rather unorthodox ritual that will awaken his hidden powers by dancing in circles around him. Back on Earth, after two rather odd and unsuccessful fusions, Goten and Trunks complete their exhaustive Fusion training, and fuse into Gotenks. However the new fighter is revealed to have only gained the worst traits from Goten & Trunks' personalities, coupled with an over-confident ego, and their first fight with Boo doesn't go well, so they then train to fuse as Super Saiyajins. Meanwhile, Mr. Satan attempts to defeat Boo, but ends up becoming his servant and eventually the two become friends. Mr. Satan eventually manages to convince Boo that killing is not the right thing after he finds a puppy named Bee, who takes a liking to Boo after he heals his leg for him. However, Bee & Mr. Satan are shot and injured by gunsmen. Boo revives them, but, enraged at his friends' injury, he releases all of his evil energy, but it forms in a dark, grey monster - Evil Boo. At his appearance, Evil Boo kills one of the gunsmen and then runs up to Fat Boo. The two Boos then fight, but Fat Boo is ultimately turned into chocolate and eaten by Evil Boo, which then causes him to transform into Super Boo. The new, terrible Boo kills the remaining gusnmen and was about to kill Hercule when he recognises his old friend, as even those old memories from Fat Boo still remain. Having gained the ability to sense powers, Boo locates Goten and Trunks' location and arrives at Dende's Lookout. There he orders Piccolo to bring the boys out, but when he refuses, Boo lauches millions of blasts down on Earth, killing everyone on the planet, apart from those on Kami's Lookout, as well as Tenshinhan and Choazu, who managed to dodge the blasts, and Mr. Satan & Bee, who are simply not targeted by any of the blasts. Piccolo then convinces Boo to wait for an hour, and he secretly tells Kuririn to send Goten and Trunks into the Room of Spirit and Time to give them extra training time. During this, Chi-Chi is turned into an egg and destroyed by Boo after she slaps him for killing Gohan.
Eventually, Boo loses his patience and Piccolo reluctantly takes him inside the Room of Spirit and Time, but he takes the long way to buy as much time as he can for the boys. Secretly, he tells them telepathically that they may have to fight Boo earlier than they expected and that they should go to bed. Eventually, Piccolo & Boo arrive in the Room of Spirit and Time, where Goten and Trunks are waiting. The boys then fuse into Gotenks and battle Boo. Gotenks uses a bunch of made-up techniques that don't do much damage, aside from his Super Ghost Kamikaze Attack, and even as a Super Saiyan, he doesn't have much luck. However, this is all part of Gotenks' plan, as he intends to trick Boo into a trap and ambush him with his ultimate ultimate move. Eventually, Piccolo, convinced that Gotenks can't win, destroys the entrance to the Room of Spirit and Time, so none of them can escape. However, Boo is able to use his power to create a vortex out of the Room of Spirit and Time by screaming, and he escapes. Outside the Room of Spirit and Time, Boo then turns Kuririn, Yamucha, and the others into chocolate and eats them all. After much pointless shouting to try and open to the vortex, like Boo had, Gotenks then powers up to Super Saiyan 3 and also creates a vortex to escape with Piccolo. Gotenks and Boo then continue their battle, with Gotenks winning, however, the 5-minute time strain of Super Saiyan 3 uses up too much energy and turns him back to normal. To make matters worse, his Fusion time runs out too and he reverts back into Goten and Trunks.
Back on the Planet of the Kaios, Dai Kaioshin finishes his ritual on Gohan and unlocks his hidden potential. Gohan then returns to Earth with Kibito with a new change of clothing and arrives at the battlefield, just in time to save Piccolo, Goten & Trunks from death. With his new power, Gohan easily dominates over Boo, until the monster self-destructs, however, Gohan manages to think fast and escape with the boys & Piccolo. Knowing Boo will return, Gohan, Goten, Trunks and Piccolo wait for an hour and during this they locate Dende, who had managed to escape the Lookout when Mr. Popo threw him down to Earth before Boo could turn him into chocolate, and they also run into Mr. Satan and Bee. Boo eventually returns and provokes Goten and Trunks to fuse again. The boys do this and go straight to Super Saiyan 3, naming himself the "Grim Reaper Of Justice", but unknown to them they have fallen for the evil djinn's trap and are absorbed into Boo's body, along with Piccolo, changing his appearance slightly and increasing both his power and intelligence. Boo tells Gohan that he began to form his plan when he sensed Gohan's enormous power far away and noticed that he could prove stronger than him. But later, Gotenks mentioned about the time limit on his fusion and so, not wanting him to turn back the moment he absorbed him, he had to stall only an hour before he could provoke Goten & Trunks to fuse again. Enraged, Gohan attacks again, but is outmatched by Boo's newly-found strength and subsequently beaten. Tenshinhan then appears on the battlefield and disintegrates Boo's energy ball with his Kikoho, saving Gohan's life. However, in retaliation, Boo decides to destroy the planet with an enormous energy ball. With no other choice, Dai Kaioshin then transfers his life-force into Goku, restoring the Earth's hero back to life (however, this hardly effects Dai Kaioshin apart from giving him a halo), and he also gives him the Potarra earrings, which can permanently fuse two beings into one, which East Kaioshin & Kibito demonstrate after Dai Kaioshin tells them to. Goku then teleports back to Earth to fuse with Gohan and slices Boo's body and tail with a Kienzan before he can destroy everone. However, the lower half of Boo's body knocks Tenshinhan out cold with one kick. Goku tosses a Potara Earring at Gohan, who fails to catch it, but desperately tries to find it while Goku receives the same beating as his son, even as a Super Saiyan 3. Forgetting about the time limit of Gotenks' fusion and the added time strain of Super Saiyan 3, the fusion inside Boo runs out and the monster is left with only Piccolo's strength. Gohan eventually finds the Potara Earring, but Goku says there would be no need for fusion as Boo has lost a great deal of power due to Gotenks' fusion running out. However, Boo has one last trick up his sleeve and sneakily absorbs Gohan with the tail end that Goku had sliced earlier, increasing his power even more. With Gohan gone, Goku is forced to find another partner to fuse with and is at first stuck with choosing either Dende or Mr. Satan, much to his disbelief.
Just as Goku nearly chooses Mr. Satan however, he senses Vegeta's ki and flies off to find him, having been allowed to return to Earth by Lord Enma to aid in the fight with Majin Boo. After Vegeta initially refuses to fuse with his rival, Goku tells him that Boo killed Bulma and absorbed Trunks. Eventually Vegeta agrees and the two fuse into Vegetto. With the strength of two powerful Saiyans, Vegetto fights Boo and quickly gains the upper hand. For awhile, Vegetto seems to merely the advantage in the fight, proving himself capable of even kicking one of Boo's planet-destroying energy balls into space, but his odds escalate when he transforms into a Super Saiyan, naming himself "Super Vegetto". Boo is in absolute shock as he is treated like a rag doll by the fused warrior and even when he turns Vegetto into a coffee-flavored jawbreaker, Vegetto is still able to pummel the djinn, forcing Boo to turn him back to normal. Eventually, Vegetto tricks Boo into absorbing him, but he shields himself with an energy barrier to prevent Boo from taking his power. Once inside Boo's stomach however, Vegetto separates back into Goku and Vegeta, most likely due to the strange innards of Boo's body. Soon after, Vegeta crushes the Potara Earrings, never wanting to fuse with Goku again, much to the dismay of Goku, who had hoped that he'd keep them in case they needed to fight Boo again. After a strange encounter with a family of giant worms and then, with their friends' evil dopplegangers created by Boo, the two Saiyans eventually discover the real Gohan, Goten, Trunks, and Piccolo unconscious and imprisoned in pink-colored pods. They then free the four and it causes Boo to turn back into his original super form. They also discover Fat Boo imprisoned inside, but decide not to set him free. Angered at losing a good deal of his power, Super Boo sends a miniature version of himself to attack the two Saiyajins inside his own body. Even as Super Saiyans, Goku and Vegeta are losing, as Boo continues to regenerate from their every attack, and Goku nearly gets defeated, until Vegeta releases Fat Boo, causing Super Boo to change again. Goku and Vegeta then escape from Boo's body when it starts to heat up with their sons and Piccolo, but after they do, they sense that Boo is getting stronger instead of weaker. As they watch on in fright, Boo turns into a smaller, child-like version of himself; Kid Boo, the original Majin Boo.
With absolutely no conscience at all, Boo launches a gigantic pink energy ball on the Earth, destroying it, but Goku, Vegeta, Mr. Satan and Dende escape to the Planet of the Kaios via Goku's Instantaneous Movement, though in the process they accidentally leave Gohan, Goten, Trunks and Piccolo to die with Earth. After Boo regenerates, he begins searching the Afterlife to find Goku and Vegeta, and eventually arrives at the Dai Kaio's planet, where Kuririn, Yamucha, Paikuhan and other deceased fighters try vainly to stop him. Goku and Vegeta then power up to alert Boo to their whereabouts, and the monster arrives at the Planet of the Kaios. The two Saiyans then decide who gets to fight first by playing "Rock, Paper, Scissors" and Goku wins. The Earth's hero then powers up to Super Saiyan 2 and begins what Vegeta proclaims as "The battle to decide the fate of the Universe." Goku and Boo match each other blow for blow for awhile and eventually Goku goes up to Super Saiyan 3, continuing the vicious battle.
As Vegeta watches the battle, he reflects on his history with Goku, thinking about how powerful he, a Saiyan Prince and an Elite, was, and yet Goku, a low-class Saiyan, continued to surpass him. Vegeta begins to realize that it wasn't Goku's morality that made him so powerful, since Vegeta now also cares for others, but because of Goku desire to fight for merely the competition, not for victory. With this, Vegeta finally accepts Goku as his superior. Though Goku continues to fight, he soon shows fatigue, while Boo remains fresh. Eventually, Vegeta powers up to Super Saiyan 2 and fights Boo, to give Goku time to recharge his power. However, Vegeta is no match for Boo, and is nearloostrangled to death, but then Mr. Satan steps up and boasts about himself. Annoyed, Boo releases Vegeta and begins to charge at Mr. Satan, but he suddenly stops, due to still having Fat Boo's care for Mr. Satan inside. Kid Boo then spits out Fat Boo, who then continues the fight. At first, the battle between the two Boos is even, due to Fat Boo's increased strength, but the tables soon turn in Kid Boo's favour, and he easily bests his good counterpart, although Fat Boo refuses to give up. Goku continues to power up, but eventually, his Super Saiyan 3 form dissolves, due to him forgetting how much energy it takes to be a Super Saiyan 3 while alive.
With no other tricks up their sleeves, Vegeta has Dende and the Kaioshins travel to Planet Namek and use the Dragon Balls there. They use the first wish to revive Earth and the second wish to revive all the good beings who died since Boo's awakening. Vegeta then hatches a plan for Goku to create a Genki Dama from the energy from the entire Earth population while Mr. Satan and Fat Boo stall Kid Boo, although the Sunnydale-Syndrome suffering Earthlings (except for the Z-Fighters' friends) believe it to have been a dream and refuse to listen to Vegeta's pleas for their energy, until Mr. Satan, angered beyond belief at the Earthlings' stupidity, manages to convince them to do so. Fat Boo finally loses the battle, and Vegeta steps in as Goku completes the Genki Dama, but Vegeta, having received the same beating as Fat Boo, finds himself incapacitated and also too near to Kid Boo. Goku refuses to throw the Bomb if it means killing Vegeta, and Kid Boo sees this, taking advantage and sitting on Vegeta's injured body while throwing energy blasts at Goku until Fat Boo recovers and knocks Kid Boo aside while Mr. Satan takes Vegeta to safety, although Fat Boo is quickly blasted aside by his evil counterpart. With his path now clear, Goku hurls the Genki Dama at Kid Boo, who is able to repel it for a while and push it back towards the exhausted Goku until Dende uses the final wish on the Namekian Dragon Balls to restore all of Goku's strength, enabling him to power up to his Super Saiyan form and destroy Kid Boo with the Genki Dama for good.
The battle finally over, Dende and the Kaioshins return to the Planet of the Kaios, where Dende heals Goku and Vegeta. Vegeta then attepts to destroy the unconscious Fat Boo, believing that it might become evil again, but Mr. Satan refuses to let him, promising to look after him. Eventually, Goku agrees and had Dende heal Fat Boo, much to Vegeta's annoyance. East Kaioshin then return Goku, Vegeta, Dende, Mr. Satan and Fat Boo to Earth, where they are met with a warm welcome by their friends and family. Later Goku gathers the Earth's Dragon Balls, summons Shenlong, and wishes for all of the Earthlings' memories of Majin Boo to be erased (except for Goku, his friends and family) enabling Fat Boo to live a normal life with them as a new Z-Fighter.
Ten years pass. By this time, Gohan and Videl are married and have a daughter, Pan, who has been trained into a strong infant by her grandfather, Goku. Vegeta and Bulma have a daughter, Bra. Goku and Vegeta are still apparently young due to their Saiyan genes, and Goten and Trunks have grown up. The Z-Fighters who have not yet retired enter the 28th Tenkaichi Budōkai, and it is there where they discover that one of the competitors, a small, boy named Oob, is among one of the strongest fighters on the planet, although he doesn't know it yet. Goku explains this and reveals that before Kid Boo died, he asked him to return as a better person so they could fight again, and Lord Enma heard this, granting Goku and Kid Boo's wish for another match, resulting in Oob, Kid Boo's reincarnation, a revelation that startles them all, especially Fat Boo (now known as Mr. Boo).
Goku and OOb are chosen to fight (after Goku asks Mr. Boo to deliberately change the matches so they could battle), but Oob, being extremely nervous, is unable to release his full potential, prompting Goku to provoke him by using racist insults towards him and his family, angering Oob enough to eventually become an equal match for Goku's base form, until Oob reveals that he cannot fly like Goku. Apologising to Oob and revealing his true intentions, Goku decides to go with Oob to the boy's village and train him there to be the Earth's next defender after he, Goku, is gone. After bidding farewell to his friends and family, Goku and Oob depart, and the match ends in a draw.
So ends the epic story of Dragon Ball Z.
