WSIU is a television station affiliated with PBS and a radio station affiliated with NPR and PRI. Both are located in Carbondale, Illinois at Southern Illinois University Carbondale. In addition, WSIU has a rebroadcaster for both television and radio called WUSI (on channel 16) in Olney, Illinois and a rebroadcaster for radio called WVSI in Mount Vernon, Illinois.
WSIU-TV and WUSI-TV are unusual among televison stations, and PBS stations in particular, in that they both broadcast monophonic audio. Consequently, many viewers who live within WSIU-TV's or WUSI-TV's service areas and can receive KETC (channel 9, St. Louis) watch KETC instead.
