Russell Wortley, former head of the Gas sub-branch of the Transport Workers Union in South Australia, was elected in 2006 to the South Australian Legislative Council.

He has been appointed to the Environment Resources and Development Committee and the Natural Resources Committee for the 51st South Australian Parliament, as well a number of select committees.

His policy interests include education, health, industrial relations, aged care, environment and natural resources. He is also a Justice of the Peace. He has acquired a Parliament House nickname of 'Five foot Fabio'. He is married to Senator Dana Wortley.
