There are two streets in Wayland with distinctive names; Creamery & Basket both named after long gone landmarks. The "Basket" stands for "Basket Factory" which was well known by many as it produced most of the grocery baskets hand woven from lumber strips and transported to many of the stores in NE Ohio. The basket factory shut down with the advent of the modern day grocery bag and it served as a home for the Portage County road dept. for awhile and then later was converted to a home in 1980. It remains on it's original location to this day. | |||
