Welcome—request protection of a page, file, or template here. | ||
---|---|---|
Shortcuts
Before requesting, read the protection policy. Full protection is used to stop edit warring between multiple users or to prevent vandalism to high-risk templates; semi-protection and pending changes are usually used to prevent IP and new user vandalism (see the rough guide to semi-protection); and move protection is used to stop pagemove revert wars. Extended confirmed protection is used where semi-protection has proved insufficient (see the rough guide to extended confirmed protection) After a page has been protected, it is listed in the page history and logs with a short rationale, and the article is listed on Special:Protectedpages. In the case of full protection due to edit warring, admins should not revert to specific versions of the page, except to get rid of obvious vandalism.

TalkSPORT (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views)
temporary semi-protection. Ongoing and frequent vandalism regarding one of the TalkSPORT presenters being caused by suspected single user which goes against the biographies of living persons policy. As the user keeps changing their IP address, reporting them as a sock will be of no use. Therefore I am requesting semi protection of the article. --tgheretford (talk) 22:45, 27 July 2008 (UTC)

Temporary semiprotection. Kexin was featured in New York Times and Associated Press articles over the weekend, and since then, the page has exploded with a rash of anonymous vandalism from various IPs. In the past three hours, the page has been attacked by various IPs and has needed to be reverted over ten times.DanielEng (talk) 20:20, 27 July 2008 (UTC)

Wendy's (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views)
Temp-Semi Persistent IP vandalism using multiple, dynamic address all by the same banned user. The user creates a fictional country called Salverland and then populates with all sorts of false history, and keeps restoring it after deletion. This "contributor" has been doing this off and on for two years with this article as well as the McDonald's, Burger King, KFC and Taco bell articles; he will only stop when the article is locked down for a time, this is the last of those articles that has not received perm-semi protection. 14-21 day protection usually stops him for 6-9 months. Perm-semi would be better... --Jeremy ( Blah blah...) 19:56, 27 July 2008 (UTC)

List of micronations (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views)
Indefinite semi-protect - constantly used as an advertisement page by IP addresses and newly created accounts as a way of promoting their newly founded, unverifiable micronations. Onecanadasquarebishopsgate 13:27, 27 July 2008 (UTC)

- I second this request, we contantly have anon users adding unsourced, unverifiable, micronations that were just formed yesterday... then, when Onecanadasquarebishopsgate or I remove them from the list we get flak from the user and have to have extended conversations with them regarding WP:N and WP:V... - Adolphus79 (talk) 16:13, 27 July 2008 (UTC)

Current requests for unprotection
ShortcutsBefore posting, first discuss with the protecting admin on their talk page. Post below only if you receive no reply.
- To find out the username of the admin who protected the page, click on "history" at the top of the page, then click on "View logs for this page," which is under the title of the page. The protecting admin is the username in blue before the words "protected", "changed protection level" or "pending changes". If there are a number of entries on the log page, you might find it easier to select "Protection log" or "Pending changes log" from the dropdown menu in the blue box.
- Requests to downgrade full protection to template protection on templates and modules can be directed straight here; you do not need to ask the protecting admin first.
- Requests for removing create protection on redlinked articles are generally assisted by having a draft version of the intended article prepared beforehand.
- If you want to make spelling corrections or add uncontroversial information to a protected page, please add {{Edit fully-protected}} to the article's talk page, along with an explanation of what you want to add to the page. If the talk page is protected, please use the section below.
Check the archives if you cannot find your request. Only recently answered requests are still listed here.
Twelver Shi`ism (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views)
Current version was edited by a user who inserted false content using unrelated or non-supportive sources, then used one sockpuppet to revert the article back to his edit, and another to request protection for the article. En Ne talk 23:16, 27 July 2008 (UTC)
Jon Porter (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views)
Please unprotect the Jon Porter page...it is not fair that people cannot edit this page just because one person went rogue and tried to put his POV. It's not fair to users like me who want to edit and really not fair for the candidate Jon Porter who doesn't even have a chance to tell his side of the arguments. Everything on Jon Porter's page is a negative and all the stances and issues are negative. If you look at his opponents page, Dina Titus, she looks like a Saint. All I'm asking for is to unprotect it so both sides of issues can be explained. For example, it says that he voted against the LillyLedbtter Fair Pay Act, that would have prevented corporations from giving fair pay to women and minorities, but the person editing did not tell you that bill was loaded with pork barrel and there was a better bill out on the floor that he did vote for. Like I said, I just want to tell both sides. You have already blocked the user, so block him/her again if they continue to go rogue.
- Declined. This is not due to "one person going rogue". This is due to a confluence of POV editors escalating into an edit war. Also, since you are apparently a brand new editor (as evidenced by your lack of contribs, malforming this report, and not signing your posts), I cannot judge your intentions by your editing history. I suggest you use the "request for significant edits to a protected page" below if you have something major you want to add /remove. Tan ǀ 39 15:43, 26 July 2008 (UTC)
Current requests for significant edits to a protected page
ShortcutIdeally, requests should be made on the article talk page rather than here.
- Unless the talk page itself is protected, you may instead add the appropriate template among
{{Edit protected}}
,{{Edit template-protected}}
,{{Edit extended-protected}}
, or{{Edit semi-protected}}
to the article's talk page if you would like to make a change rather than requesting it here. Doing so will automatically place the page in the appropriate category for the request to be reviewed. - Where requests are made due to the editor having a conflict of interest (COI; see Misplaced Pages:Suggestions for COI compliance), the
{{Edit COI}}
template should be used. - Requests to move move-protected pages should be made at Misplaced Pages:Requested moves, not here.
- If the discussion page and the article are both protected preventing you from making an edit request, this page is the right place to make that request. Please see the top of this page for instructions on how to post requests.
- This page is not for continuing or starting discussions regarding content should both an article and its discussion page be protected. Please make a request only if you have a specific edit you wish to make.

Mary Surratt (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views)
semi-protection There is an extraordinarily persistent anon who attempts to slip in the claim that flatulence was heard at her hanging, as opposed to gasping. This is not as far as I can tell a content dispute -- the anon has never (at least as far back in the record as I've looked) offered the slightest argument that the claim is factually true. To me it appears to be an experiment to see if he can get a false claim into Misplaced Pages by pure persistence (this, I admit, is speculation on my part). --Trovatore (talk) 07:46, 27 July 2008 (UTC)
- Note: If its only one ip, a block is preferred over protection. Looking over the ip's talk page, I see there is a history of issues. I suggest warnings are given, and after the fourth you report it to WP:AIV. Synergy 08:08, 27 July 2008 (UTC)
- Comment would that it were that simple, but it's not just one IP; it's at least four (203.20.35.101, 203.20.35.102, 202.81.69.132, and 117.120.16.131, just in the past few days), though almost certainly one unique individual (all the IPs are from Australia). I'd love to just block that individual but I don't see how that's possible. Blocking all those IPs would involve a lot of collateral damage. --Trovatore (talk) 08:23, 27 July 2008 (UTC)
