Bon Jovi's third and most commercially successful album Slippery When Wet was released on August 18 of 1986 (see 1986 in music). It sold over twelve million copies in the U.S.. Still today it is one of the 6 best selling hard rock / heavy metal albums ever!
and spawned two #1 singles, "You Give Love a Bad Name" and "Livin' On a Prayer". Slippery When Wet hit #1 (for 15 weeks, the record for a hard rock album)on the Billboard Top 200. Jon Bon Jovi initially didn't want to include "Livin' on a Prayer" on the album, as he didn't think it was a good song. Ironically, it became one of the band's most popular and well-known songs, and was the #1 song of 1987. The song is referred to in Bon Jovi's 2000 single It's My Life
With this album' singles Bon Jovi was the first hard rock band to ever have 2 consecutive #1 hot 100 chart hits! (You Give Love A Bad Name followed by Livin' On A Prayer a couple of months later.
Also...the Slippery When Wet album was #1 on the album chart both times they had the #1 song, another hard rock first.
