Please semi-protect this talk page. I know protection is usually only given to articles, not to talk pages, but this is an extreme case: the talk page suffers from high levels of IP spamming potentially slanderous/libelous material in violation of WP:BLP onto the talk page. This page is constantly vandalized by IP users who dislike the naming convention we've decided to use on the page (i.e. using the newer official translations over the old ones). Could you slap semi-protection on it for a while to prevent this? We've already tried putting in hidden comments informing them of the reasons for the change and the like. Full protection would prevent all non-administrator users from editing your talk page - which would include you and would emphatically not include Theresa Knott, who is an administrator. I also note that, given that the suspected sock puppet case (here) has been closed and archived, that the issue being discussed is done and finished - and that comments such as this really aren't all that helpful. A simple (and politely worded) note on Theresa Knott's talk page asking to consider the matter closed (which it is) would likely be more effective at achieving your desired result. I assume good faith on the part of Theresa, and would take her at her word when she says that she will not do something. If you say nothing further to her, it's unlikely that she would have occasion to comment on your talk page anyway - so I don't think it would be an issue. If she were to comment for some reason, feel free to remove the comment - on your own userpage, removing a comment or a notice is taken as an acknowledgement that you have read the comment or notice. But there is no technical means by which she can be prevented from editing your talk page; since you've made your feelings on the matter clear, and since she's already agreed to refrain from commenting there, I think you have nothing further to worry about. Semi-protection: The page was recently created, and has immediately become the home for consistent (although good faith) addition of unsourced (or sourced from fansites) material. It is hard to track if it's a single person, or just new people finding the page, as the IPs generally change each time. I'm not sure how long to request semi-protection for, as the Smallville season pages have shown a history of this problem lasting until the final episode description is released by the CW network (which generally doesn't happen until that following May).  BIGNOLE  (Contact me) 16:58, 30 August 2008 (UTC)

Semi-protection: Except in exceptional cases like {{WPBiography}}, WikiProject talk page banners should not be full-protected, as they often need code upgrades, and in this case I can't even edit the documentation (nor fix that problem, since the protection prevents me from breaking it out into a /doc page; d'oh). Such templates are only rather infrequent targets of vandalism or editwarring; protection not justified. While it is somewhat of a "heavily used template" (rationale given for protection), semi-protection is sufficient, and full protection of things like this makes it difficult for non-admin WP:COUNCIL participants to help meaningfully with things like Misplaced Pages:WikiProject Council/Banner standardisation efforts. — SMcCandlish ‹(-¿-)› 03:22, 30 August 2008 (UTC)

Semi-protection Perhaps this is premature, but an IP vandal came in, was reverted by another, then came back in. Then another IP came in. I don't like to use the term vandal, but I don't know what else to describe this as. This is their second time through. You can see from the history that there is a history of vandalism on the page, or IPs putting up personal home page links, or other such stuff. Is this premature? I don't know.
