In the movie, the main character Frank Dux is trained by Tanaka to participate in the Kumite, the ultimate freestyle, single-elimination, full-contact martial arts tournament. Frank, who is in the army, enters and the army sends out some men to get him. He resists them. While he tries to get to the tournament, Frank knows that he may have to face Chong Li, the defending champion, who has killed a few participants and injured his friend.
