Your sig
Say, have you given your sig any more thought? It's been a week or so since I stopped by, and it seems you've deleted my questions without comment. Can you do me the minimal courtesy of an explanation? Thanks, TenOfAllTrades(talk) 05:49, 1 October 2008 (UTC)
- Did you read my previous commments on the matter? BTW, if you have some time, you may want to contribute to WP:LAKES.
- Interesting read. I was wondering what brought you to my talk page .. -- User:Docu
- Please don't insinuate that I'm some sort of minion of Pigsonthewing. I noticed that you ignored my queries earlier today, and only got around to writing to you now. I came to your talk page because in addition to Andy's rather obnoxious hounding, you've also ignored the polite requests of a number of editors.
- You still haven't answered my question, which is here. I've read your comments, and remain unenlightened. Why not do this simple thing that makes life easier for other editors? Give me a clear answer to that – not another question or oblique reference to your previous comments – and I'll not ask again. TenOfAllTrades(talk) 06:38, 1 October 2008 (UTC)
Coords question
Seeing Wwoods correcting coords on articles such as Ellsworth County, Kansas, which had something listed at 17'60", I'm curious: do you know why a place might be listed at 60" in the first place? I know I'd never write something like that, and I can't imagine why anyone else would. Nyttend (talk) 18:04, 2 October 2008 (UTC)
- It's generally a rounding problem. Check out Template_talk:Coord#A_degree_with_60_minutes.2C_a_minute_with_60_seconds. -- User:Docu
Coordinates (2)
Now that most coordinates were converted to {{coord}}, would you help me by re-generating the coordinates' log? There shouldn't be many changes compared the previous templates, but I'd like to make sure. The remaining "old" templates are mostly on Rambot/Smackbot pages.
BTW if you want, I can post a copy of your script including the changes suggested at #Coordinates to a page on your user talk "namespace". These changes as such are not needed to verify the conversions. -- User:Docu
- I have rerun the script with your some of you modifications in place. You probably also want the following errors which aren't in the log:
./geodbcompiler.py:231: Warning: Data truncated for column 'region' at row 1 ./geodbcompiler.py:231: Warning: Data truncated for column 'scale' at row 1 ./geodbcompiler.py:231: Warning: Data truncated for column 'type' at row 1 ./geodbcompiler.py:231: Warning: Incorrect integer value: 'building' for column 'scale' at row 1 ./geodbcompiler.py:231: Warning: Incorrect integer value: 'city' for column 'scale' at row 1 ./geodbcompiler.py:231: Warning: Incorrect integer value: 'landmark' for column 'scale' at row 1
Mojibake
I've fixed some apparent mojibake in Misplaced Pages:WikiProject Geographical coordinates/coordinates to fix: the cause seems to have been that data originally encoded as a UTF-8 byte stream was incorrectly regarded as being a byte stream in Windows-1252 encoding, and then the resulting decoded Unicode characters were then re-encoded as UTF-8. I've now fixed this by reversing the decoding/encoding process above. -- The Anome (talk) 12:48, 5 October 2008 (UTC)
- Thank for fixing it (and learning me what it's called). -- User:Docu
Geolocatable articles by continent
I saw your category Category:Articles missing geocoordinate data by continent; that's an excellent idea. Since I had the data and bot code to hand, I've now filled in the rest of the continent/country entries. -- The Anome (talk) 17:33, 11 October 2008 (UTC)
- I tried to run CatScan on the by country category, but it failed (too large), thus this sub-set. -- User:Docu
- Thanks: that's useful, too. I'll also do the West Bank, Western Sahara and Gaza Strip categories by hand, since they're not in my data set, and I had to hand-do them earlier today. -- The Anome (talk) 17:37, 11 October 2008 (UTC)
